Introduction Speech Reflection

February 8th, 2009 by cmackay

On Monday, February 2, I gave my first speech for this IPC class. The speech was supposed to be derived from what makes me unique. At first, I had trouble deciding what it was exactly, that made me unique from everyone else. Then almost out of nowhere I just remembered that I went through numerous serious surgeries and that would set me apart from others. The fact that I broke my humerus tied the whole speech together with the fact that I still keep it humorous despite all of my setbacks.

When it came to the actual delivery of the speech, I was ready and confident about giving the speech until it was almost my turn. By that time I started to get the butterflies in my stomach and my nerves began to build. Once it was my turn I got up there and I could feel my voice shake a bit but other than that I felt like I was able to convey my message well. I feel the main thing I need to improve for the next speech is more preparation before I actually give the speech.

1/21 Class Reflection

In last Wednesday’s class we went through a lecture, watched a short video, and then in our groups, we went over ethics for our class as a whole. I enjoyed the video because it gave me an idea of what the first speech would be like. I also liked working with my support group because it consists of interesting people.

My name is Casey Mackay and I am from Marion, Ohio. I am currently a sophomore majoring in Sport Enterprise at Bowling Green State University. Since I am a SM major I just want to get through this class with a respectable grade. But, hopefully this will help me with my public speaking skills because I am without a doubt in need of improvement in that field.
