Hi everyone, my name is Devery Manier and my artifacts was based on the topic of Sex in Middle Age. I discussed in class that my artifact was a video that I found on YouTube and a web site giving tips and information on sex after having a stroke. The video was about a 45 year old man living in Taiwan went to doctors complaining of severe headaches after having sex with his wife. In fact, the man said he’d suffered headaches whenever he ejaculated and has suffered from the symptoms ever since he was 10 years old.The doctor explained that the man suffered from late coital cephalgia, which are headaches caused by ejaculation that can last for hours and up to days. The reason is due to the constriction of veins in the man’s brain and an increase in blood pressure after sex.The condition can easily be treated with medication and he will also need to avoid strenuous exercise or moving heavy objects as this will also cause an increase in blood pressure. The video also informed me that some men are too embarrassed to seek medical attention and it is estimated that 7% of men with this condition will suffer a stroke if left untreated. After watching the youtube video, I transition into discussing Sex After Stroke. The website discusses that many stroke survivors and their partners can enjoy satisfying intimacy after stroke. The sooner they resume sexual relations the better. The website then goes to answer questions that many people that may have suffered a stroke may need answered and also tips. For example,  they answer questions that range from “will I have another stroke during sex?” to “How will my partner respond to me?”. These artifacts relate to course material because it informs the class that people in their middle years can still have sex with or without health problems. I enjoyed learning more about my artifact because it made me appreciate and value sex when I older. I always thought that people in there 40s and up didn’t have sex, but I was proved very wrong.

My two artifacts are posted below:
