East Bay Charter Township is seeking a paid History Intern to help document and share the community’s story. Based just southeast of Traverse City, Michigan, this part-time, temporary role runs May 15–August 15 (up to 37 hours/week) with flexible scheduling within office hours Monday–Thursday, 7:00 am–5:30 pm. Pay is $18/hour with earned sick time as required by law.
You’ll dive into primary and secondary sources—archival records, local newspapers, photographs, and oral histories—to research township history. The intern will catalog, digitize, and organize materials to build the Township archives; collaborate with the Traverse Area District Library (East Bay Extension) to upload collections online; and create web content to share findings on the Township website. The role also includes community engagement: coordinating calls for materials, conducting resident interviews, and helping ensure proper preservation and storage of historical items. Ideal candidates are current or recently graduated students in History, Public History, Museum Studies, or related fields, with strong research, writing, and organizational skills.
