Ch. 2 Thoughts and what not :]
After reading chapter 2 ot Coming to Age in SecondLife it really made me think about the development of technology over the past 100 years. How the author discusses the developments which were huge to society over 100 years ago such as the telephone, and telegraph and what not. The development if televisions and movies were a big deal and emphasized new inventions to further our technological literacy that has evolved today. I also thought it was interesting how he discusses that virtual worlds have always somewhat existed, with the ideas of Plato and from Ancient Greece. The second main part that was focused on was how technology makes life much more simple than it would be without it. I could not imagine a life without the conviniences of cell phones or computers, even things like DVR on our Tv is a big technological advance, in my opinion. It makes me think back to the development of video games as well. Back when i was probably about 5 years old I remember playing the first nintendo (which we still own) and how that was such a big deal back then. The nintendo systems have constantly been developing to have more advanced games, it would only make sense to have those progress onto the computer. On Wednesday I seemed to be improving with my attempts to learn more about Second Life. Even though i still need to ask for help with certain things, i am able to figure out others on my own. I didn’t know how to teleport someone until last class, and I was able to find the freebie stores and collect free gifts from them. I think the more i learn about Second Life and become more literate with it, the more i am going to enjoy it.
