I would like to look at authority figures enforcing obedience and abusing their powers, such as Zimbardo and Asch. I would also like to include some things on Hitler.

Stanford prison experiment

The Standford Prison Experiment and Asch’s experiment and Milgram’s experiment all have to do with obedience. This experiment was very unethical and got very out of hand. The prison guards pushed their authority power to the max and abused their powers. Zimbardo was also part of the experiment which gave it a biased view. We are still not very sure what Zimbardo was aiming for in this experiment, but it was handled terribly. These experiments were unethical and should not have been allowed to do this.

obedience

Both of these experiments obviously has to do with obedience and the shocking results of how obedient people are to authority figures. There are common themes here with the Holocaust and all of the genocides in the world today.

Milgram

I was shocked by the results of this experiment. 60% of the subjects continued to the end, without knowing if the test subject was still alive or not. Milgram’s experiment was ethically not right, he argued with the test subjects to continue until the end, he would not let them leave, unless they physically got up and walked through the closed door. This experiment was very scary.

2/26 definition of obedience

My definition of authority is someone above you who has the right to give orders. My definition of obedience is following orders when they are given to you.

From my peer review sheet, I learned I have a lot of work to do on my essay before I can turn it in.

My biggest concern with MSE 1 is gathering all of my thoughts and sources and citations and making them all flow well. I might want to conference with Heather sometime next week to help me organize a few things.

2/19 works cited

Sullivan, Bennett, Hekker and O’Brien.

topic proposal

February 17th, 2010 by haasa

I think I am going to do my topic on child rearing. I feel like I would have a firm grip on it because there are many different works I can look into to support my arguments. However, I need to figure out what my argument is, and how I am going to refute the other arguments.

2/15 themes

February 15th, 2010 by haasa

There are many different themes in this essay, including; singlehood, coupledom, the definition of a relationship, child rearing (Hekker thinks children need a stay at home mom, Bennet thinks children need straight parents, Sullivan thinks it takes two married parents to raise a healthy child, O’Brien thinks you dont need two parents, singlehood is okay), tradition, the traditional family, define a happy person, all these themes work together. I want to synthesize the ideas of child rearing.
