Facebook vs. Social Life

September 7th, 2011

I’ve been on facebook for about four years now. I get on maybe once a day when bored to look at pictures, profiles, etc. I enjoy seeing what my friends and family are up to since I don’t see everyone as often anymore.

I think socializing on facebook is similar to socializing in real life. People still communicate, just posting on peoples walls opposed to face to face. People still can catch up on facebook.

One of the complaints people made in the early era of cellphone was that people tend to cancel appointment more often at the last minute. The basic human interactions would be similar whether we interact face to face, or through cell phones, or through Facebook. But there could be some subtle differences when we look at people’s detailed experiences.

And also, you know what, one of Google+’s claim is that its functions are more similar to real life than Facebook. In Google+, you can make four different circles: family, friend, acquaintance, and follower. What do you think about this?
