At first I did find the blogs helpful, but after a while it felt that I was just repeating myself to get my three blogs in for the week. I liked blogging when we had projects that we were working on and we were able to ask questions. It always helped when you were able to answer my specific questions about the project that I had. This is my first semester using blogs and I do think that they are a helpful tool if you don’t overuse the idea too much.
1. Should I include all of my appendices with my lesson plan?
2.Did I devote enough of my reflection to why a lesson plan is considered a literacy?
3. Does my reflection meet all of the requirements on the assignment sheet?
4. Do I have any spelling or grammar errors?
5. Should my reflection be 2-3 pages double spaced or single spaced?
I think there is a lot that I can gain by reflecting on a literacy that I will be using in my professional career- lesson plans. Lesson plans are something that I will have to develop for every class period that I will teach. Reflecting on this as a literacy is important because I have previously not thought about it as a literacy before
Final Project Proposal
Eng 207
Spring 2009
Options 1 & 2 Focus
1. For my final project I am going to focus on a literacy I will need to possess for my teaching career, lesson plans, because lesson plans are something I will need to use every day for the rest of my teaching career.
2. This is a literacy because: It is a specialized form of literacy because it has certain terminology that only teachers would understand. It also incorporates both reading and writing skills.
3. Explain how you use/practice/demonstrate this literacy right now in your life right now (in other words, what role does the literacy in question one play in your life)?
Right now I am just starting to learn about how to create a lesson plan, so my literacy is just developing.
4. Explain how this literacy might be used by others in their personal lives. Explain how this literacy might be used by others in their professional lives.
A lesson plan is a step by step set of directions for the classroom, so all teachers would use one each day. A version of this for the everyday person might be a to-do list.
5. How do you see yourself using this literacy professionally? What need does this literacy meet that others cannot? In other words, what will this literacy do that others do not?
This literacy gives teachers a format to follow in order to make an informative plan they can follow each day in their classroom.
6. How do you plan to demonstrate your literacy?
I will show an example of a 5 class period lesson plan and then writie a reflection on this literacy and why it is important.
7. What questions do you have about this project?
Will I be doing enough for this project?
8. Create a chronological list of the steps you will need to take to complete this project. Then, set a time-line of when each step will be completed. This will be a tentative contract between you and me to assure you’re making progress on this project.
1.) Find the lesson plan- by Monday April 20th
2.) Create the reflection- rough draft by Wednesday April 22nd
3.) Final copy- Monday April 27th
When we began this class I thought that literacy just dealt with reading and writing. But as the semester progressed my view of literacy has changed. Now I understand that literacy impacts my life on a daily basis. Literacy also has a big impact on the we use technology which I never really thought of before. Literacy is used as we text message, and even as we are blogging now. I have also learned that literacy has different functions in my personal life as well as my professional life.
I think I might create my blog so that my reader sees my introduction stating the purpose of my portfolio first. This is just going to be a traditional paper. Then I will have a page for each unit and also my blog that the viewer can click on to view the material. I am not really sure what to include in the introduction. Maybe I could give some background about the class and the different units we completed in the class, along with what I learned about literacy.
Based on the feedback that I gave today during peer review I have also noticed things I need to work on as I revise my cover letter and resume. I really need to be sure to be descriptive and thoroughin my cover letter. I need to make the person that is reading my cover letter understand exactly what job I am applying for and what my qualifications are. I need to go over my resume and make sure there are no errors because that can really influence whether or not you get the job. I might change the font of my resume to make it stand out a little more because right now I think it looks a little boring.
I still need to finish both my resume and my cover letter. This is taking me a lot longer then I thought it was going to, mostly because I am making a lot of my information up since I am pretending I am qualified for the teaching position I am applying for. I am wondering how you are going to grade these resumes though.
What seems most important to my job ad is that it says that you need to be committed to the social, emotional, and cognitive needs of all students. This is important because this is the kind of person they are looking for. I will have to address these needs in my cover letter.
- What does the company do? This is an independent co-ed college preparatory school.
- What are the desired qualifications and skills? See above.
- What does the company seem to value? They value the unique talents and learning styles of each student.
- What are key words that are included on their website (or in their ad) that you should include? That I am qualified for this position.
I have only had to create one resume “for real” to actually turn in for a job position. My understanding of resumes is that they include personal information such as education, experience, previous jobs, qualifications, and contact people. Resumes are basically pretty straightforward and don’t leave a lot of room for creativity because they still have to look professional.
