Project 4 – Trade Show Display

31 Mar

The company I chose to do for my trade show display is Dewalt power tools. Dewalt already does a great job of creating trade show displays and I believe I can create a good one as well. The company began in 1936 with the invention of the first radial saw by Raymond E. Dewalt. Since then the company has exploded in growth and even took over Black and Decker. With such a large customer base and innovative new products, trade shows are a must for this mammoth company. As seen in the pictures below of existing Dewalt exhibits, its obvious that they take the displays very seriously.

All of these displays are great and also portable. They can all be disassembled for easy traveling. Also, the bus just folds up and is its own transportation. For my display, I want to use something like seen below.

I like that this display is large yet seems very easy to assemble and portable. Also, it is sort of divided allowing multiple presentations to larger crowds. Since Dewalt has so many different products, multiple presentations is a must for a successful trade show.

My preliminary sketch ideas and comp’s can be seen below.

VCT 3040 – Project 3 – Billboard

16 Mar

The organization I chose to do my billboard for is The Toledo Zoo. The Toledo Zoo often has large billboards displaying their upcoming events, or new additions to the zoo. A popular billboard from them is the “They’re Coming” billboard for the new tiger exhibit. This billboard can be seen below.

I went on to The Toledo Zoo’s website and looked for new events coming up and they are doing a “Rock and Roar” event. This summer they are having a bunch of bands play at the zoo and even have an ad on their website as seen below.

I want to do something like this, but on a bigger scale and probably more musically oriented. Below are my ideas for what I think would be eye catching and appealing to both children and adults. I think the event is more geared towards young adults, so I will make sure that the billboard is geared towards them. Overall, I think it will turn out great.

VCT 3040 Project 2 – Research Brief

16 Feb

The product I chose for this project is Doritos. Doritos have been an American staple since its release in 1964. Since its debut, Doritos have seen a wide varieties of flavors, from Nacho Cheese to Sweet and Spicy Chili. Doritos can be found nearly everywhere, from grocery stores to gas stations, fast-food restaurants, and around the vending machine around the corner. This gives a wide spectrum in which to advertise. Popular advertising for Doritos seems to be in some sort of corrugated cardboard structure. Whether it be a standard box shaped stand, or a massive Super Bowl season tower, Doritos are everywhere.

Competitor companies have been using generally the same display of their chips as Doritos, although, I found one company in particular that used a unique display approach. Their name being Cape Cod Chips, they’re display was made out of cardboard and in shapes of boats around a lighthouse. It was very unique and embraced the image the company is trying to portray.

I want to aim my audience to be children shopping with their parents. During research I found a prototype mini container for Doritos which looks very interesting. I want to use this design idea for my structure. Since children would be attracted to a large orange shelf with crazy shapes, I believe it will be very effective. Below are concept sketches of my design.

VCT 3040 – Project 1

27 Jan

The product I chose for project 1 is the Apple iPhone. I chose this because even though I don’t even have one, I find myself gravitating towards their in store displays whenever I see one.

The iPhone has been available since June 2007 and has exploded with sales. Part of the reason for the large interest in the product is due to the in store displays that grab consumer’s attention and immerse them in to the product. Apple does a great job especially with some of its most recent iPhone displays.

I want to use Apple’s current ideas of creating a display that revolves round the iPhone and display all necessary information; A background that contains “What iPhone is for you”, listening stations, app store simulators, etc.  The displays will hold several different stations to allow multiple user interactions.  I want to convey the advertisement message that an iPhone is intuitive and will make your life easier. Attached pictures will show the ideas I am working with.
