Lives Change @ your library

BGSU Libraries and librarians have a powerful and positive impact on the lives of BGSU’s students, faculty, and staff. These stories communicate the value of libraries all over.

This National Library Week (April 13-19) join us in telling the stories of how the library has changed our lives.  Come join us for these fun activities:
Monday, April 14, 2:00 pm, Music Library

Take Sleeveface Selfies in the Music Library – With the word “selfie” earning a place in the prestigious Oxford dictionaries in 2013 and world leaders engaging in their own self-produced portraits, the narcissistic pastime of taking selfies has suddenly gained an unexpected legitimacy. By combining selfies with sleevefaces (“one or more persons obscuring or augmenting any part of their bodies with record sleeve(s) causing an illusion” –, we will encourage participants to reflect on selfie culture by juxtaposing images from the the library’s collections with self-reflection and consider what new ideas emerge.

Tuesday, April 15, 11:00 a.m., William T. Jerome Library

Friends Doughnuts – In commemoration of this week, the Friends of the University Libraries will serve doughnuts to our patrons so they can enjoy a treat while taking a break from studying.

Tuesday, April 15, 2: 00 p.m., Curriculum Resource Center

Library Bubble Selfie in the Curriculum Resource Center – The CRC will have laminated the speech bubble ALA has presented. Then patrons will write on the speech bubble how the library has changed their lives with prompts like “The library helps me …” The CRC will take the students’ selfie with the speech bubble and post in on their social media sites with the hashtags # LivesChange and #NLW14.

Wednesday, April 16, 8:00 a.m., William T. Jerome Library

Egg Hunt – Students can search the entire library for eggs and candy.  Clues will be posted on Facebook and will be available at the Reference Desk.  Five $10 Starbucks gift cards will be given to the winners.

 Thursday, April 17, 12:00 p.m.-1:00 p.m., Pallister Conference Room

Preserve Your Digital Heritage: A Workshop on Archiving Your Digital Photographs – This work shop will provide information about creating a long(er)-term preservation strategy for your digital photographs.  We will discuss the best practices for the digital preservation of images from an array of mediums including: Digital cameras, cell phones, Facebook, Instagram, and Clouds.  Library staff will provide a brief presentation on techniques to preserve your digital heritage and be available to answer any questions you may have about digital preservation.  Bring a friend and any digital preservation questions you have. Light refreshments will be provided.

 Thursday, April 17, 3:30 p.m.-5:00 p.m., First Floor Atrium

Authors & Artists -The Friends of the University Libraries will honor BGSU faculty and staff members for their scholarly publications and artistic achievements. During the past twenty-four years, The Friends have publicly expressed appreciation to more than 1,400 BGSU faculty and staff for their important contributions to their disciplines, the culture, and the University.

 Weeklong Events:

Prize Patrol – Staff from the Curriculum Resource Center will be patrolling the library with book related questions and fabulous prizes.
