Frustrated

I was supposed to meet with my boss last week and he couldn’t so we are supposed to tomorrow after I get done with my serving shift. He is not taking this as serious as I want him to, especially since this is free work that is being done. I guess I am kind of venting because I hate when people don’t take me serious about photography. I will just have to prove how awesome I am once I do the shoot and the photos turn out great! I hope he starts to realize that this is business and not a joke.

I know exactly how you feel Katie. Explaining our business to family and friends is also a chore. Most of them think we just point and shoot our cameras and magically come up with a work of art; they don’t really understand what it takes. And like you said, the only way to prove them wrong, is to show them the finished product.

Yes, Katie – take the high road and be a professional. He knows his type of business and you know yours – photography. If he senses that you are really taking this seriously and want to create some great shots for him (and your portfolio), he will have a more serious focus to complete your project. I think when he sees the final product and the research you have done, he will see that this isn’t just “getting a class project done”. This is your life’s work and career.

It can be really frustrating when you are trying to get things done and you have a deadline and your client doesn’t take you seriously. Even working with my family it was hard for them to think of it as getting a job done instead of just keeping busy. I had to explain to them that we needed to have meetings and if we had meetings they couldn’t just bail on them last minute because of another meeting or something that would come up. Once you let them know how serious you are about it hopefully they’ll start getting serious also.
