After reading Chapter 2 of the text, I learned a lot about the history of Virtual reality and saw it at different perspectives. The author talked about how caves painting can be seen as virtual. There are certain constructs of virtual reality in which humans interact in. Language and symbols help construct virtual spaces that people encounter all the time. The author mentions that when the telephone was invented the space where the conversation took place was thought to be in a virtual (magical) space. I feel that with new technologies comes new definitions of what is virtual reality. The sims games can be seen as some sort of virtual world, but it is limited to being on one computer, as in once the computer shuts off the world shuts off in the sims, but Second Life in online so the world is always there no matter what. There is still things going on in that world when one turns their computer off. These new technologies, especially the internet, virtual reality is an on going social activity that keeps growing.
