The 52nd annual Band Music Reading and Directors Clinic at Bowling Green State University’s College of Musical Arts Thursday-Saturday, Jan. 21-23, will feature the premieres of several works, including pieces by guest conductor Ryan Nowlin. All performances will be held in Kobacker Hall of the Moore Musical Arts Center.

BGSU’s Bruce Moss will direct the BGSU Wind Symphony in a concert of premieres, tributes and celebrations at 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 22. Assisting will be Nowlin and trombonist William Mathis, a Bowling Green music faculty member. The performance will include the world premiere of Nowlin’s “Sounds of the Centennial,” winner of the BGSU Centennial Fanfare Competition; the American premiere of Samuel Adler’s “Concerto for Trombone” featuring Mathis, and the premiere of Mark Camphouse’s “Two American Canvases” in this multistate district of Kappa Kappa Psi and Tau Beta Sigma national honorary band organizations. Tickets are $7 for students and senior citizens and $10 for other adults in advance, and $10 and $13, respectively, the day of the performance.

On Saturday, Jan. 23, Carol Hayward will conduct the BGSU Concert Band in a 1:30 p.m. performance. The free performance will include the premiere of “Through Peaceful Eyes” by Nowlin, “Three Celtic Dances” by Brian Balmages, and “Sketches on a Tudor Psalm” by Fisher Tull.
