Broman’s, Associate Professor of Music Theory and Associate Dean, study on Ingmar Bergman’s use of music, “Silence and Sound in Ingmar Bergman’s Films,” was just published in the anthology Music, Sound and Filmmakers: Sonic Style in Cinema, edited by James Wierzbicki (New York: Routledge, 2012). The chapter discusses not only Bergman’s use of music, but also what in important role music plays in the narrative.
