BGSU’s Assistant Professor of Oboe, Nermis Mieses, was awarded third prize at the 2014 Barbirolli International Oboe Competition. The prestigious event was held in the Isle of Man, British Isle, from April 5-12. A world class jury panel comprised by George Caird, Neil Black, Maurice Bourgue and Han de Vries heard 23 competitors representing 19 different countries. After a series of 5 rounds Ms. Mieses became the first American finalist in the existence of the competition. Her prize was handed over by His Excellency Mr Adam Wood, Lieutenant Governor of the Isle of Man.
