Academic honesty is the act of being completely responsible for your work and giving credit to those who deserve it.

Academic Honesty…

– Citing sources within papers

– Inclding a “Works Cited” page

– Doing your OWN work

-Not cheating on tests, quizes, exams, etc.

-Never lying to an authority figure, faculty member, or instructor when it comes your academics

-Accepting assignments and performing them the best one can

– Respect the work of fellow classmates

Enlist as many readers/responders as you can. The more people who read

your draft, the stronger will be your sense of what the reader needs to

know.

I chose this revision strategy because i feel the whole point in writing an essay is so someone else can read it. Why not have numerous inputs instead of just one? I plan, in addition to my instructor and peer-editor, to have my roommate, one of my other friends in a GSW class, and possibly someone at the writing center view my paper as well. I think it will help strengthen my paper to have a vast amount of perspectives to keep my paper from being bias or one-sided. I also really enjoy having people read my work and feel comfort knowing that a lot of people think my writing is adequate.

 My plan for revising involves following the simple writing steps. Now that I have my peers input on my paper, I plan to take their advice and then revise it. Afterwards, I plan on revising in any ways that you think i should and then typing up a finalized copy. After my final copy is typed up, I plan to ask for further input from either a fellow classmate, you, or possibly my roommate or upperclassman on campus. I value these revision strategies because I know I can trust these peoples opinions and because my audience is directed towards this certain group of people. I believe these revision strategies will help to strengthen my paper and help to better me as a writer as a hole.

-They start out somewhat somber (essay 11- death of daughter)

– They make you feel more turned on to topics you normally would not be (essay 24- made science/math more appealing)

– Makes you value what you have (Isabel Allende- daughter who had little, but still loved every minute of what she had)

– Authors of different races, genders, social classes (Jackie Robinson, Brian Greene, Isabel Allende)

 The goals of a This I Believe essay are somewhat hidden beneath a deeper meaning in each of the passages. They are to let the reader hear about their personal struggles and try to let them know what it means to value something. Many of the authors value something that most of us would take for granted, or over-look in our everyday life. In one way they try to relay a message to us that will maybe help us to value something just as much as they do. In another sense, I feel as if they are trying to teach a lesson about finding something to value. Altogether, the goals of a This I Believe essay focus on teaching the audience about finding something to value and explaining to them how much it means to have something to value no matter how small or large it is. If you find something to believe in, then your life will mean just a little bit more to yourself.

Writing is important because not only does it help us through school and work, but it also helps to broaden our vocabulary, increase our knowledge, and expand our imaginations. Writing is also something that can be made more of a hobby rather than a chore as well.

Many professors assign writing prompts that seem to be annoying or boring, but I think that they want us to find a way to make it enjoyable… so I always try to put my own spin on my literary masterpieces.

Honestly, I am unsure how I would convince my ten-year old that writing is important. I would most likely try to instill them with the thought that if they become a better writer now then it will help them in the future.
