Lesson Plan and Overview

Title Mouse Paint Mayhem
Grade Level/Subject KG1 (PreK)
Overview of Lesson Aimed at Early Learners, this lesson is taught in a WebQuest format. Through the incorporation of literature, web exploration, and hands-on learning, the students will explore color. The first objective is to assist the learner in listening and attempting to read along to a story in their second language; English. Students will be discovering the three primary colors and three secondary colors through exploring various links on the internet. Students will experiment with color using paint at the art station; also attempting to retell integral parts of the story through this medium. Finally, students will share their work with peers in the classroom and publish their work via Voice-Thread and Flip Video.

Teacher Commentary Reflection

(What problems do you anticipate with this lesson? How will this lesson fit into your overall curriculum planning?)

Initially, my thought is that there is only one computer in my classroom, with limited time at the computer lab (that also has limited available computers). This will be the first time for my students to experience a WebQuest. In addition, it will be done in their second language; Arabic being their first, English the second. This lesson will no doubt take considerable time for the students to complete due to these challenges. To accommodate for this, the unit I have planned this for encompasses two weeks, I will be utilizing the literacy block each day for students to work on the WebQuest; in addition to the computer lab slot each week. I feel the students will be engaged and excited in addition to the other activities and lessons for the unit.

Mouse Paint Mayhem: A WebQuest In Color…Presentation Video

Note: Above you will find a video of the WebQuest created for this project. The downfall of this video, you will not be able to view how the links work together to form the actual WebQuest. In addition, the links to the webpages for the colors and Mouse Match are not visible due to the nature of this video production.
