Chapter 3 is a look at how the process of the work of the author was to get done.  The authors enthusiasm is very appearant as he begins to reveal his method for studying the ins and outs of secondlife.  the author trys to explain his true meaning for the creation of the book through speaking about the goal as a demonstration of the existance of a relatively enduring logic shared in some way by its participants.  A section in this chapter is devoted to a look at anthropology and ethnography. The author does a fine job in distinguishing the two separate from each other and expaining a clear and concise definition for the two also. The author also uses a section to discuss his observation of individuals in secondlife and how he effectively conducted his research without intruding or revealing too much to comprimise his research.

Chapter two sends us right into a more indepth understanding of how our experience in secondlife will be. I think the authors set up of teaching a little background on how the history of virtural worlds came about and how they were and are viewed past to the present really helps to focus the readers mind on what to expect from the experience.  The author begins with writing on the assumption of how he believes humans were and have always been virtural. Then a discussion of virtural technologies and thier strong progress through time is the main material of the chapter.  The author even takes a second to recall his own history with virtural technology starting with his childhood facination with Atari and its pong video game.  Then he speaks of his graduation to other more advanced systems and gaming programs as he grew up that shaped and inpsired his love for technology.

Chapter one of this book as with most others is a introductory look into what we are getting ourseleves into with second life. The author has to set up to perameters of what the book and the secondlife experience is about and he does that by leading us into how virtural worlds work and the historical view behind it. This chapter ultimately gives us a view of what  the author wants to accomplish as he writes about his reasoning for doing the book in the first place.

Our second life project is still waiting to be launched. We recently had our location for our speed dating service changed to be able to use a larger space. As of now, we are still waiting for the right authorization to begin putting our place together. I have since done more exploration in secondlife that has interested me. Last time that I was on I had a lenghty conversation with a group of individuals that found ourselves in proximity to one another. We had a conversation about a building that existed in the area that we were standing at. The people I was talking to were dressed very interestingly. One person was dressed in a cat suit and was exibiting very flirty behavior. The other characters around were seemingly normal and courdial when I spoke to them. My exploration ended there because I got lost in what seemed like a forest of some sort.

Today was the first day I actually got to look for and collect some of the items that will be needed to complete the speed dating project that my group decided on last week.  At first, I must say I ran into a bit of a problem looking for places that I would be able to readily find the items that I needed.  My main objective for searching for today was to find some chairs that will be essential to the set up of the speed dating service.  After finding a freebie store that I was sure I could find some materials, I got the chance to check some of the different models that were being offered at the store.  I purchased a few of the items, getting different makes of chairs and a couple tables but my big find came when I decided to purchase a large water pool that will add an eye flare to the look of the building. I also found a booth that we can use for a bar so people can enjoy a beverage as they sit and talk to their new found friend.

Recently, our task in class has been to discuss or findings on secondlife and begin to think about a business or some sort of entertainment or some operation to try and get up and running.  I am in the group that has decided to try and implement a speed dating service that would allow individuals on secondlife a venue to sit down and get to chat with others that they would not normally have the chance to do.  This dating service will be a full service venue providing a proper setting for people to get to know each other.  The venue will also include music and other lounging areas to further conversations.  The dating service is looked at right now as something that will be a large success because of people wanting to get to know new people. What better way to do that than through a dating service.

I began my secondlife exploration in the place I last left myself during class. I was in a pool of water with no one else in the surrounding room with me.  After teleporting to a few different places I got the urge to go shopping to see if I could find anything interesting to do with my avatar.  After floating around to a couple of places I found myself at a shopping mall that sold exclusively all free stuff. I was a bit baffled on the ideal that it was called a shopping mall with all the items there free but I quickly let it go being that this is secondlife Im experiencing here.  My first instinct was to grab and purchase any and everything i could, heck, everything is free so i dosent matter.  After grabbing several vehicle, clothing, and food packages, I stubbled or floated across a box that contained several guns. I was disiappointed considering I couldnt find out how to use them. I was later satisfied when I found a batman avatar to replace the bland general one I had at default.

The first experience in secondlife is an eye opening one. It dosent take long to understand the things that are happening in the virtural world, its just takes a minute to figure out why these things are taking place. Second life to me can be viewed as a wide open arena where just about anything is possible. Second life seems as if it can be a fun experience once the user gets to know how to explore and find one’s interest’s. Overall, I feel the second life experience is just another tool that connects people making the world seem even that more smaller.
