Chapter 7
bryanp | November 18, 2008The focus of chapter seven in Coming of age in second life discusses the ideal of communities throughout secondlife and outside virtural worlds and its importance to the livelihood of the program. Second life was described as a means that people with like interest was able to come together to talk and interact about topics and discussions that interest them. The initiation of communities is said to be one of the driving forces that has kept second life alive since it was began. The ideal of communities in second life gave opportunity for people to hold events that they and their friends that they had accumulated over time could enjoy. Many of the groups created provide members that platform to feel comfortable with how they want to express themselves and what opinions they want to reveal. With the ideal of communities becoming a largely participated activity that those on second life took part in, it gave many people the opportunity to portray a different side of them that they may not associate with in the real world. Second life gives everyone the opportunity to be whatever personality you would like and also the possibility to be however many personas that you’d like which many people have taken advantage of.
