#2-I liked Pokemon Cards for plenty a reasons. It had its own weekly played cartoon. The cards also presented somewhat of competition. You always wanted to have the best card or most “rare” cards. And it always seemed like it was somebody who had better cards than you, so I always got more. I liked Pokemon because it was different, it wasn’t a game or any cards like them. They we’re different from basketball and baseball cards. Pokemon cards also brought different kids together, when i was younger if I saw another kid with Pokemon cards i would go up to them and talk to them, and most times become friends. They were also cheap and easy to access so everybody had them.

#3–I don’t see the toy or anything similar to what i chose on the list for “2009 hottest toys” mainly for the reason that pokemon cards have reached their peak and there isn’t any other show or movie that has picked up the strategy of trading cards. I think that trading cards might be seen as more old school or not as effective in the era of technology we are in.

The new toys that are popular today are popular because some of the advances in technology . Because the concept of what toys are being made are the same as when i was younger. For example, action figures, they’re are still action figures today they just look more like the tv show or movie they’re modeled after—Transformers, TNMT. A lot of the popular toys today are electronic whether its the Nintendo WII or a Barbie that talks. The new toys are popular because they’re getting closer and closer to real for the kids.

#4– If i were a child again i would probably ask for an action figure of some kind, one that has its on tv show or movie that I watch. I would ask for one of these cause they’re inexspensive and they’re sturdy so  I would be able to use them whenever i wanted.

#5– It’s a lot of different aspects that make toys popular. Sometimes its how the company presents the toys, for example yhey presented Pokemon with the sl0gan “gotta catch em all”. That made you want to get all of em so you kept buying them until you had all of them. Some toys remain popular while others don’t because they lose originality or they get old. The toys that stay popular are the toys that keep coming out with something new and something kids never seen before. Toys lose originality when they keep trying to add onto a toy instead of just making a new one, this also happens when another up and coming toy takes the main characteristics or ideas of an already popular toy.  Toys also just get old, similar to television shows, video games, or songs and people get tired or bored with them.

Narrative Self Reflection #2

When writing my 2nd essay i realized how important my audience is in writing. When doing a counter argument you have to put a real effort forward because this is possibly your reader’s opinion. I also learned that tone is important, it can draw your reader or completely turn them off to your essay. This was the first time writing and argumentive essay without sources. Writing this improved my writing and reasoning skills. Writing  a counter argument was  difficult for me in the beginning, until i thought of it in perspective; what i would i say if i disagreed. I also learned how to accurately critique my fellow classmate’s work. The TBEIR technique for paragraphs also helped me when struggling with structure.

Narrative Self Reflection #1

1. I’ve learned that your mostly writing for your audience. And you have to keep them drawn in. By using differnet techniques, good introducitons, details, and story telling. You also have to make sure you don’t offend your audience, so you have to be care ful how you word or display your opinion.

2. – I’ve learned to accurately analyze complex pieces of writing and the ideas within them by reading them to myself out loud. By getting others opinion on the work, then seeing the differneces and similarities in both of our opinions.

-I’ve learned to analyze a potential source and accurately assess its credibility, timeliness, and relevance by carefully going over the content of the source. Recognizing who wrote the article and if they’re known as a credible source or not.

-When providing perceptive and productive feed back to my peers I am able to correct basic grammatical errors and give suggestions on content and structure.

-I am able to see where I am struggling with my work. For example when i was writing for my This I Believe essay I was struggling with my story part. And i was able to get feed back and suggestions on what i could do from my peers.

3. Writing this semester I have realized that its easier for me to brainstorm then set up the structure of my paper, then comeback after to put in the details or add a story.

4. Throughout the semester I really haven’t had that many problems with my page formatting, source citation or documentation or any grammatical issues, beside the occasional typos.

5. Value System has a lot to do with writing a paper. You have to decide which part of the writing your going to do first. You have to incorporate your values into the papers. This is what makes every paper different.

TIB Essay

I don’t think people realize how much music plays into everyday life. Think about it, every major event and even the minimal events in one’s life involves music; weddings, funerals, schools have their fight songs, radio, TV show‘s theme songs, movies, your religious place of worship. It connects person to person. Everybody is constantly surrounded by music. It’s involved in every aspect of life. I like to think of music as a close friend that everybody has in common.

I remember in September of 2007 when my cousin Morgan passed away. Everybody was just so shook at the funeral. She was so young, and it was so unexpected. Nobody knew what was going through the parent’s minds at this time. But this was the day where I found out music wasn’t just something you just listen to on the radio or just something on cd’s. It’s an art of expression. Morgan’s mother was supposed to sing Morgan’s favorite song. Everybody was trying to figure out where she would find the strength to stand up and sing in front of all these people when something like this just happened. But somehow she found the strength to sing, and the feeling I got was indescribable. It was like she could get everything out through her singing, all the pain and all the stress. And after that day every person I talked to that was there told me that they had never heard anything like it and it was something they would never forget. It just touched me in a way that I don’t think any speech or talk could. This is how I knew music was more than just different genres and record deals.

I believe in music. I believe in music a lot stronger than most people. It’s so hard to explain what music is to me because it really is nothing like it, it’s powerful. It’s an escape to me; it’s almost like a place to me. It’s an outlet, in more than one way, whether you’re

the one making, writing, singing, or just listening to the music.

Music is where I go to reflect or when I just need to be by myself. When I listen to music I feel like I don’t need anything else. All I have to do is put headphones in my ears and close my eyes and it feels like I’m by myself and nothing can touch me. If I’m going through something I just I find a song that relates, and just release by listening. I don’t know if it’s the melody, the lyrics, or just the rhythms that makes it like nothing else.

I believe in music. I believe that music is literally like nothing else. Music can be that friend that you need to talk to when no one is there. Music can be that thing that can bring you to meet your new best friend. It’s there when you’re happy, sad, frustrated, lonely, and any other time. Music is for everybody, no matter what, whether your a student, a parent, a pre-schooler, or in a nursing home. Music is a must in life

My name is Mark Brown, i was born in Columbus, Ohio and moved to Cincinnati to be closer to family, when i was about 3. I’m an only child, in a way, i have a half brother and step sister from my dad. I live with my mother in Cincinnati, and my father stays in sunny San Diego, California. Go out there to visit a couple times a year, I’m thinkin about moving there after complete undergraduate.

I like all sports, but specifically basketball. I’ve been playin since i was 8 or 9.  I always loved the competition and the seriousness that came with playing sports. Playing since a young age and being around it a lot  I think its almost inevitable to develop a passion for it, and for it to always be in you. So I think I’ll always have the desire to play or be around the sport for the rest of my life.
