Local residents receive scholarships to attend BGSU Firelands

Bellevue resident receives scholarship to attend BGSU Firelands
Huron, Ohio – Salli Jo Feick of Bellevue has received the Dr. Ronald M. Ruble Theatre Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. Feick will receive $500 towards tuition for the 2012-2013 academic year.
This award is available to full- and part-time students who are actively working in theater technical work and in the Firelands College Theatre and the Caryl Crane Youth Theatre.
Feick is a 2010 graduate of Bellevue High School where she was an honor student, an honor thespian, and she received the National School Choral Award. While in high school she was involved in Drama Council, choir, band, tennis, and Solo and Ensemble Competition.
She is a junior majoring in liberal studies at BGSU Firelands where she has been active with the Firelands College Theatre Club.
She is the daughter of Craig and Sheila Feick of Bellevue.

Milan resident receives scholarship to attend BGSU Firelands
Huron, Ohio – Cody Derrick Noon of Milan has received the Dr. Ronald M. Ruble Theatre Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. Noon will receive $500 towards tuition for the 2012-2013 academic year.
This award is available to full- and part-time students who are actively working in theatre technical work and in the Firelands College Theatre and the Caryl Crane Youth Theatre.
Noon is a 2009 graduate of Edison High School.
He is a senior majoring in theatre and business at BGSU Firelands. While in college he received the Outstanding Acting Award and the Outstanding Theatre Participant Award twice. He has been active with the Firelands College Theatre Club and been involved with many aspects of the Firelands College Theatre productions.
He is the son of Richard and Beverly Noon of Milan.

Vermilion resident receives scholarship to attend BGSU Firelands
Huron, Ohio – John Vincent Rufo of Vermilion has received the Firelands Audubon Society Environmental Science Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. Rufo will receive $500 towards tuition for the 2012-2013 academic year.
This scholarship is awarded to a full-time sophomore, junior, or senior at BGSU Firelands or Bowling Green State University who declares a major of environmental science, has a minimum 3.0 GPA, and is a resident of Erie or Huron counties. Financial need may be a consideration. The recipient of the award will be expected to attend a Firelands Audubon Society meeting and present a brief program on an environmental project associated with his/her class work.
Rufo is a 2010 graduate of Vermilion High School.
He is a junior majoring in environmental science at BGSU Firelands.
He is the son of Art and Leanne Rufo of Vermilion.

Bellvue resident receives scholarship to attend BGSU Firelands
Huron, Ohio – Ryan Lynn Cook of Bellvue has received the Home Savings Business Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. Cook will receive $2,000 towards tuition for the 2012-2013 academic year.
This scholarship was established in 2006 by the Home Savings Charitable Foundation. Recipients of this award are chosen from students in the Norwalk and Sandusky area who have completed their first year of studies at BGSU Firelands. The recipient must be a business major who has at least a 3.0 GPA.
Cook is a 2011 graduate of Bellevue High School where he was on the honor roll and was named Academic All-Ohio. He was active in Key Club, baseball, and golf.
He is a sophomore majoring in accounting at BGSU Firelands where he has been on the Dean’s List.
He is the son of Rodney Cook and Jill VanFleet.

Bellevue resident receives scholarship to attend BGSU Firelands
Huron, Ohio – Brandon D. Bedell of Bellevue has received the Janet M. Harst Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. Bedell will receive $1,200 towards tuition for the 2012-2013 academic year.
Established by Janet M. Harst, adjunct instructor and BGSU Firelands Development Board member, this scholarship is available to full- and part-time students with a 3.0 GPA or better.
Bedell is a 2010 graduate of Bellevue High School.
He is a junior majoring in electronics and computer technology at BGSU Firelands where he has been on the Dean’s List.
He is the son of Douglas and Sussetti Bedell of Belleveue.

Norwalk resident receives scholarship to attend BGSU Firelands
Huron, Ohio – Alexis R. Van Giesen of Norwalk has received the Frank Leake Memorial Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. Van Giesen will receive $600 towards tuition for the 2012-2013 academic year.
This award is funded by memorial contributions from the family, friends and colleagues of the late Dr. Frank Leake and is available to students in the registered nurse to bachelor of science in nursing program.
Van Giesen is a 2010 graduate of Norwalk High School where she was on the honor roll and the Principal’s List, won several art awards, and was inducted into the National Honor Society. While in high school she was a volunteer at Fisher Titus Medical Center.
She is a junior majoring in nursing at BGSU Firelands where she has been on the Dean’s List.
She is the daughter of Nick and Pamela Van Giesen of Norwalk.

Berlin Heights resident receives scholarship to attend BGSU Firelands
Huron, Ohio – Mary E. Towns of Berlin Heights has received the Grace L. Keller Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. Towns will receive $819 towards tuition for the 2012-2013 academic year.
Grace Keller has always valued education. She is the mother of six grown children, most of whom received both their undergraduate and graduate degrees. She recognizes the crucial and valuable role that BGSU Firelands holds in the community. This scholarship is available to a continuing student at BGSU Firelands. The recipient must possess a minimum 3.3 GPA and be studying in the College of Education and Human Development.
Towns is a 1999 graduate of Chaney High School in Younstown.
She is a junior majoring in early childhood education at BGSU Firelands where she has been on the Dean’s List.
She is married to Mark Towns and she is the daughter of Mike and Barb Liptay.

Huron resident receives scholarship to attend BGSU Firelands
Huron, Ohio – Allison Paige Evert of Huron has received the Mary Printy Memorial Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. Evert will receive $1,987 towards tuition for the 2012-2013 academic year.
This endowed scholarship is available to students majoring in nursing. Special consideration is given to adult learners who plan to pursue or are presently active in careers in maternity nursing.
Evert is a 2006 graduate of Bellevue High School. She is currently a member of the Oncology Nurse Society and she is employed as a registered nurse at Seidman Cancer Center at Firelands Regional Medical Center.
She is a senior in RN to BSN nursing program at BGSU Firelands.
She is married to Bill Evert of Huron and she is the daughter of Charlie and Sally Corbett of Bellevue.

Sandusky resident receives scholarship to attend BGSU Firelands
Huron, Ohio – Jordan Jeffrey Lange of Sandusky has received the The Murray and Murray Charitable Foundation Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. Lange will receive $2,000 towards tuition for the 2012-2013 academic year.
Established in 2007 by the Murray and Murray Foundation, this award is available to residents of Erie County with preference given to graduates of an Erie County high school.
Lange is a 2012 graduate of Perkins High School where he earned a diploma of distinction, varsity letters in track and cross country, the Coach’s Award for cross country, and the Outstanding Senior Award in Home & Family Life. While in high school he was active in National Honor Society, Aim for Excellence, Sons of the American Legion post 83, and Boy Scouts of America where he earned the rank of Eagle Scout.
He is a freshman majoring in physical therapy at BGSU Firelands.
He is the son of Jeffrey and Rene Lange of Sandusky.

Sandusky resident receives scholarship to attend BGSU Firelands
Huron, Ohio – Tyler B. Dupont of Sandusky has received the Todd Marshall Memorial Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. Dupont will receive money towards tuition for the 2012-2013 academic year.
Created by the family of Todd Marshall, who was a lecturer of biology at BGSU Firelands, and funded by his family and friends as well as community members, this scholarship supports a full-time student pursuing an associate or a bachelor’s degree in nursing. Students must maintain a 3.0 GPA and financial need is a consideration.
Dupont is a 2010 graduate of Margaretta High School where he was part of the 95% Club, on the honor roll, and earned an honors dipolma. He was active in National Honor Society, National Technical Honor Society, EHOVE Tech Prep, Student Government, Students Against Drunk Driving, yearbook, and theater.
He is a junior majoring in nursing at BGSU Firelands where he has been on the Dean’s List and works as a tutor in the Teaching and Learning Center.
He is the son of Matthew Corkins and Michelle Rapp.

Holt is a 1992 graduate of Margaretta High School.
He is a senior majoring in liberal studies at BGSU Firelands where he has been on the Dean’s List and earned several awards including the Achievement in Art Award, the BGSU Firelands College Theatre Meritorious Service Award, and Outstanding Theatre Participation Award. He is a member of the Firelands College Theatre Club, the Women’s Resource Group, and Omicron Kappa Delta.
He is the son of Patrick Holt and Joyce Hemmer.
