Huron, Ohio – In celebration of its 50th Anniversary, Bowling Green State University Firelands College has published a book of short stories and memories from the first five decades of the Huron-based campus.
Compiled by Professor Emeritus Joel Rudinger, “The Stories of Our College,” is filled with contributions from students, alumni, faculty, and staff of the College.
“I may have served as the collector and refiner of the information, but the contributors truly are the authors of this story of BGSU Firelands,” said Rudinger. “This collection is meant to be a chorus of different voices. If you’re like me, you will appreciate the content because it is a window into the minds of those who have made our BGSU Firelands special,” he added.
Rudinger was one of the first faculty members of BGSU Firelands and has followed the evolution of the College since its inception in 1965.
This book is a collection of fond memories of life-changing helpers and guides, faculty mentors, and fellow students; recollections of friends and crazy events; scholarship and sports; innovative teaching; and the travels of students, staff, and faculty. The book also includes dozens of photos from the history of the College and interesting trivia.
“This book is important because it reminds us of things which, though perhaps forgotten as we’ve moved on, are still a part of our lives. Every student or member of the College’s staff who has spent time within our walls or on our campus has come out a different person, however subtle or dramatic the change. The honey of learning will stick to their coattails for a long as they shall live,” said Rudinger.
The book will debut at the Firelands 50th Festival on Saturday, April 23 which is taking place on the campus from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and is open to the public. The book will be available afterward in the College Bookstore and the cost is $5.
