Bowling Green State University Firelands College Student & Campus Activities and the CHAT student organization will be turning up the microphones and showcasing the talents of several nationally recognized performers during the Spoken Word Unplugged event on Thursday, February 4 at 6:30 p.m.

Held in honor of Black History Month, Spoken Word Unplugged is performance-based poetry, or story telling, which often incorporates music, theatre, and dance.

In addition to national talents, the BGSU Firelands event will feature several alumni as well.  Slated to perform at the event are:

  • Khary Jackson, a 2004 graduate of BGSU, authored “Any Psalms You Want,” a poetry book, and several plays. He is also the winner of the 2009 and 2010 National Poetry Slam.
  • John Gibson, a 2002 graduate of BGSU, has produced two poetry albums and is the winner of the 2013 National Poetry Slam.
  • Ephraim Nehemiah and Damion McClendon, The Revolutionary Poets, who are currently on a tour of colleges and universities throughout Ohio.
  • The event is hosted by Big T of WNZN Power 89.1 FM.

Spoken Word Unplugged is free and open to the public and will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the BGSU Firelands Café, One University Drive, Huron, Ohio.

Prior to the program a Spoken Word Workshop will be conducted by Jackson from 4-5 p.m. in the McBride Auditorium on campus.  The workshop is also free and open to the public.
