Castalia resident receives scholarship to attend BGSU Firelands

Huron, Ohio – Samuel William Kuns of Castalia has received the Dr. Jeffrey Wagner Memorial Scholarship in Natural Sciences Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. He will receive $850 towards tuition for the 2015-2016 academic year.

This scholarship was established by Barbara Wagner to honor the memory of her late husband, Jeff Wagner. This award recognizes academic achievement of a student pursuing a degree in biology, chemistry, mathematics, geology, or physics at BGSU Firelands or BGSU. The recipient must be a resident of Erie, Huron, or Ottawa counties and maintain at least a 3.5 GPA.

Kuns is a 2014 graduate of Margaretta High School where he was on the honor roll, had perfect attendance for three years, was named Student of the Nine Weeks in several subjects, and he was recognized as the Student of the Month for Citizens Bank and Sandusky Rotary. While in high school he earned four academic letters and participated in National Honor Society, Students Against Destructive Decisions, and Chess Club.

He is a sophomore majoring in neuroscience at BGSU Firelands where he is involved in Science Club, National Society of Collegiate Scholars, and the National Society of Leadership and Success.

He is the son of Brian and Tammy Kuns of Castalia.

Sandusky resident receives scholarship to attend BGSU Firelands

Huron, Ohio – Brenna Marie Weaver of Sandusky has received the Firelands Campus Endowment Fund Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. She will receive $1,165 towards tuition for the 2015-2016 academic year.

Established in 2010, this endowed fund supports full- or part-time BGSU Firelands students in nursing or allied health programs. Students must have successfully completed at least one semester and demonstrate financial need.

Weaver is a 2012 graduate of Port Clinton High School.

She is a junior majoring in nursing at BGSU Firelands where she is a member of the National Society of Leadership and Success.

She is the daughter of Jeffrey Weaver and Michelle Farris.

Bellevue resident receives scholarship to attend BGSU Firelands

Huron, Ohio – Kathryn Elizabeth Bailey of Bellevue has received the Fred Deering Memorial Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. She will receive $500 towards tuition for the 2015-2016 academic year.

This scholarship was established in 2011 by Margaret Deering to honor the memory of her late husband, Fred Deering. Deering successfully combined managing his thriving agricultural business with his love of politics and public service. This scholarship is available to a junior or senior with a minimum 3.0 GPA, demonstrated financial need, and is actively engaged in community service. Preference is given to students who intend to pursue public service after graduation, either as a career or volunteer activity.

Bailey is a 2011 graduate of Bellevue High School where she was on the honor roll. While in high school she earned the Elks Award.

She is a senior majoring in inclusive early childhood education at BGSU Firelands where she has been on the Dean’s List.

She is married to Russell Bailey and she is the daughter of Thomas and Laurie Lepley of Bellevue.

Sandusky resident receives scholarship to attend BGSU Firelands

Huron, Ohio – Allyson Leigh Tuttle of Sandusky has received the Sandusky Elks Book Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. She will receive $500 towards tuition for the 2015-2016 academic year.

This award is available to students living in Erie County.

Tuttle is a 2011 graduate of Bucyrus High School where she was on the honor roll and named the Most Improved Student. While in high school she was involved in DECA, tennis, Science Club, and served as senior class treasurer.

She is a senior majoring in business administration at BGSU Firelands where she has been on the Dean’s List.

She is the daughter of Craig and Stacey Tuttle of Bucyrus.

Milan resident receives scholarship to attend BGSU Firelands

Huron, Ohio – Jacob Elliott Forren of Milan has received the DeBard Family Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. He will receive $1,134 towards tuition for the 2015-2016 academic year.

This scholarship was established by the Robert DeBard family. DeBard is the former dean of BGSU Firelands and a retired professor of Bowling Green State University. This scholarship is awarded to a full-time student pursuing a degree in business or education, who is from Erie County. Financial need and a 3.0 GPA or better are preferred.

Forren is a 2009 graduate of Edison High School where he graduated with honors and was a member of the French Honor Society.

He is a sophomore majoring in inclusive early childhood education at BGSU Firelands.

He is the son of Kenneth and Melanie Forren of Milan.

Milan resident receives scholarship to attend BGSU Firelands

Huron, Ohio – Shelby Olivia Schaeffer of Milan has received the William J. Parker Family Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. She will receive $784 towards tuition for the 2015-2016 academic year.

This endowed award is variable and the criteria for the award is financial need.

Schaeffer is a 2015 graduate of Edison High School where she was involved in National Honor Society, Spanish National Honor Society, softball, tennis, Chargerettes, Spanish Club, Math Club, Art Club, Friends of Rachel, and Key Club. In her spare time she was active in 4-H and Junior Fair Board.

She is a freshman majoring in biology at BGSU Firelands.
