Sandusky resident receives scholarship to attend BGSU Firelands

Huron, Ohio – Rachael H. Hughes of Sandusky has received the BGSU Firelands Bookstore Book Loan Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. Hughes will receive course materials for the 2014-2015 academic year.

Each academic year, the BGSU University Bookstore provides course materials in the form of book loan awards to qualified students at BGSU Firelands.

Hughes is a 2014 graduate of Sandusky High School where she was on the honor roll and earned varsity letters for academics and cheerleading.  While in high school she was active in cheerleading, volleyball, National Honor Society, National Technical Honors Society, and Family, Career and Community Leaders of America.

She is a freshman majoring in inclusive early childhood education at BGSU Firelands.

She is the daughter of Joseph and Malissa Hughes of Sandusky.

This scholarship is sponsored by BGSU Firelands in recognition of the academic accomplishments of the high school teams that place first, second, and third in the Annual Firelands Challenge competition. One scholarship is awarded to a graduate of each of the three winning schools. Edison High School finished in first place, Norwalk High School finished in second place, and Port Clinton High School finished in third place.

Fillmore is a 2012 graduate of Port Clinton High School.

She is a sophomore majoring in social work at BGSU Firelands.

She is the daughter of Stacy Fillmore of Port Clinton.

He is a freshman majoring in criminal justice at BGSU Firelands.

Sandusy resident receives scholarship to attend BGSU Firelands

Huron, Ohio – Lucy Olivia Larose of Sandusy has received the Firelands Positive People Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. Larose will receive $500 towards tuition for the 2014-2015 academic year.

Each year the Firelands Positive People organization hosts a Positive Living Award Breakfast. During that program, BGSU Firelands awards at least one student who is planning to attend BGSU Firelands a scholarship in recognition of the adversity the recipient has overcome.

Larose is a 2014 graduate of Saint Mary Central Catholic High School.

She is a freshman majoring in nursing at BGSU Firelands.

Castalia resident receives scholarship to attend BGSU Firelands

Huron, Ohio – Sarah Elizabeth Bryner of Castalia has received the Mylander Foundation Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. Bryner will receive $1,605 towards tuition for the 2014-2015 academic year.

This scholarship is available to students who are residents of Sandusky or other Erie County communities.

Bryner is a 2014 graduate of Margaretta High School where she was top ten of her graduating class, was on the honor roll, and received a three-year academic letter.  She earned many awards during her high school career including the Prudential Spirit of Community Award, the Cheryl Zahl Award, Sandusky Rotary and Elks Club student of the month, and Most Valuable Lab Student.  While in high school she was active in 4-H, choir, yearbook, Drama Club, and Students Against Destructive Decisions.

Bryner is a freshman in the associate of science program at BGSU Firelands.

She is the daughter of James and Renne Bryner of Castalia.

Fitz is a 2012 graduate of Margaretta High School where she was on the Honor Roll and active in band, Foreign Language Club, National Honor Society, Students Against Destructive Decisions, and her high school leadership program.  While in high school she also volunteered with Big Brothers Big Sisters, Project Share, and Clothe-A-Child.

She is a sophomore majoring in inclusive early childhood education at BGSU Firelands where she has been on the Dean’s List.

Sandusky resident receives scholarship to attend BGSU Firelands

Huron, Ohio – Matthew Joseph Ommert of Sandusky has received the Robert W. Traver Memorial Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. Ommert will receive $920 towards tuition for the 2014-2015 academic year.

Established in memory of the former Sandusky chief of police and chief of security for Mr. Wiggs Department Stores, Inc., this scholarship is awarded to a student who is a resident of Sandusky. Sons and daughters of police officers are given preference.

Ommert is a 2011 graduate of Perkins High School.

He is a junior majoring in inclusive early childhood education at BGSU Firelands where he has been on the Dean’s List and he is a member of National Society of Leadership and Success.

Each year BGSU Firelands awards scholarships to the student of the year, the first runner up, and the second runner up, to recognize them for their outstanding accomplishments in high school.

Dickman is a 2014 graduate of Sandusky High School where he was on Honor Roll and earned awards including Career Tech Student of the Month, Career Tech Student of the Year, Principles Award and he was named a Northern Ohio League Scholar Athlete. While is high school he was active in golf, bowling, and tennis.

He is a freshman majoring in general business management at BGSU Firelands.

He is the son of Robert and Shirley Dickman of Sandusky.

Gonzalez is a 2014 graduate of Sandusky High School where she earned several awards and recognitions including academic letter, varsity letter, Firelands Challenge Team Award, Merit Award, Scholar Athlete, and Student of the Month in Spanish II and III as well as Rotary Student of the Month.  While in high school she was active in National Technical Honors Society, Academic Challenge, Future Educators of America, National Honors Society, Teens for Christ, track, cross country, bowling, Prep Club, and Family, Career and Community Leaders of America.

She is a freshman majoring in inclusive early childhood education at BGSU Firelands.
