Huron resident receives scholarship to attend BGSU Firelands

Huron, Ohio – Nicki Jo Chavarria of Huron has received the BGSU Firelands Faculty and Staff Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. Chavarria will receive $2,028 towards tuition for the 2014-2015 academic year.

This award is available to any full- or part-time student with demonstrated financial need.

Chavarria is a 1996 graduate of Sandusky High School.

She is a junior majoring in social work at BGSU Firelands where she has been on the Dean’s List and an honoree of the Champions Program. While in school she has been active with the Humanitarian Organization for Peace through Education Club.

She is the daughter of Francisco and Dottie Chavarria.

Willard resident receives scholarship to attend BGSU Firelands

Huron, Ohio – Whitney Lamae Gibson of Willard has received the Laura A. Kautz Memorial Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. Gibson will receive $1,000 towards tuition for the 2014-2015 academic year.

Created in memory of Laura Kautz, the scholarship is available to a full-time student in his/her second year of the radiologic technology program who is currently completing a clinical rotation at Firelands Regional Medical Center. The recipient must have a minimum 3.4 GPA.

Gibson is a 2011 graduate of Willard High School where she earned an Honors Diploma, was inducted into the National Honor Society, and was actively involved in softball, basketball, and volleyball.

She is a senior majoring in radiologic technology at BGSU Firelands.

She is the daughter of Joseph and Sandy Gibson.

Huron, Ohio – Danielle Nicole Jones of Huron has received the NBC Universal – Buckeye CableSystem Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. Jones will receive $1,028 towards tuition for the 2014-2015 academic year.

This variable scholarship is available to full- and part-time students who reside in Erie County and are graduates or candidates for graduation from any high school in Erie County. Need is a consideration for this award.

Jones is a 2013 graduate of Sandusky High School.

She is a sophomore majoring in criminal justice and social work at BGSU Firelands where she participates in the Criminal Justice Club and the Society of Fandom and Gaming.

She is the daughter of Mary Beth Wade-Jones.

Huron, Ohio – Jeanelle Louise Harvey of Sandusky has received the Sandusky Elks Book Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. Harvey will receive $500 towards tuition for the 2014-2015 academic year.

This award is available to students living in Erie County.

Harvey is a 2008 graduate of Virtual Community School of Ohio.

She is a junior majoring in nursing at BGSU Firelands.

She is the daughter of Jimmie and Jeanette Harvey.

North Fairfield resident receives scholarship to attend BGSU Firelands

Huron, Ohio – Josey Lane Brown of North Fairfield has received the William J. Parker Memorial Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. Brown will receive $1,602 towards tuition for the 2014-2015 academic year.

This endowed award is available to students who are enrolled on a full- or part-time basis.

Brown is a 2013 graduate of New London High School where she was on the honor roll and participated in volleyball. She earned the Firelands Conference First Team All-Academic Award.

She is a sophomore majoring in nursing at BGSU Firelands where she has been on the Dean’s List.

She is the daughter of Daniel and Julie Brown.

Huron, Ohio – Stephanie L. Chapman of Sandusky has received the William Randolph Hearst Endowed Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College.  Chapman will receive $1,826 towards tuition for the 2014-2015 academic year.

This scholarship is funded through an endowment given to BGSU Firelands by The Hearst Foundations.  The Foundations were established in the mid 1940s by publisher and philanthropist William Randolph Hearst.  The Hearst Foundations are an independent, private philanthropy operating separately from the Hearst Corporation.  The charitable goals of the Foundations reflect the philanthropic interests of Hearst:  Education, health, social service, and culture.  Academically qualified students with financial need are given special consideration for this award.

Chapman is a 2011 graduate of Huron High School where she earned an Honors Diploma and she was on the honor roll.
