Sandusky resident receives scholarship to attend BGSU Firelands

Huron, Ohio – Lynn E. Joseph of Sandusky has received the Dr. Joseph F. Krauter Memorial Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. Joseph will receive $1,011 towards tuition for the 2014-2015 academic year.

This endowed scholarship was established in memory of Dr. Joseph F. Krauter, a BGSU Firelands professor from 1969 to 1989. Non-traditional students with a 2.5 GPA can be considered with preference given to students who have served in the military, who are full-time students, and who reside in Erie, Huron, or Ottawa counties. Special emphasis is placed on students who are working while attending college, but who are in jeopardy of dropping out due to financial reasons.

Joseph is a 1986 graduate of Eastwood High School.

He is a junior majoring in electromechanical technology at BGSU Firelands where he has been on the Dean’s List.

He is the son of Lynn Joseph Sr.

Fremont resident receives scholarship to attend BGSU Firelands

Huron, Ohio – Tracy Sue Weis of Fremont has received the Edward and Donna (Bender) Hamer Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. Weis will receive $1,104 towards tuition for the 2014-2015 academic year.

This endowed scholarship was established in 2002 by Mrs. Donna Hamer and is available to a full-time student at BGSU Firelands. Any student from the Firelands area is eligible and financial need is a consideration for the award.

Weis is a 2004 graduate of Fremont Ross High School.

She is a junior majoring in early childhood eduation at BGSU Firelands where she has been on the Dean’s List.

She is married to Thomas Weis and she is the daughter of Michael and Susan Daniels.

Monroeville resident receives scholarship to attend BGSU Firelands

Huron, Ohio – Lara B. Wilken of Monroeville has received the Fred Deering Memorial Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. Wilken will receive $500 towards tuition for the 2014-2015 academic year.

This scholarship was established in 2011 by Margaret Deering to honor the memory of her late husband, Fred Deering. Deering successfully combined managing his thriving agricultural business with his love of politics and public service. This scholarship is available to a junior or senior with a minimum 3.0 GPA, demonstrated financial need, and is actively engaged in community service. Preference is given to students who intend to pursue public service after graduation, either as a career or volunteer activity.

Wilken earned a GED in 2001. She has been employed by Firelands Regional Medical Center for the past four years where she has earned Patient Advocate Award and Nursing Excellence Award at Firelands Regional Medical Center. She serves as a substitute school nurse for Perkins Local Public Schools and volunteers at Safe Harbor Domestic Violence Shelter.

She is a senior majoring in nursing at BGSU Firelands.

Wilken and her husband live in Monroeville with their two children.

New London resident receives scholarship to attend BGSU Firelands

Huron, Ohio – Janessa P. Kipp of New London has received the Home Savings Business Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. Kipp will receive $1,000 towards tuition for the 2014-2015 academic year.

This scholarship was established in 2006 by the Home Savings Charitable Foundation. Recipients of this award are chosen from students in the Norwalk and Sandusky area who have completed their first year of studies at BGSU Firelands. The recipient must be a business major who has at least a 3.0 GPA.

Kipp is a 2013 graduate of New London High School where she was named First Team All-Firelands Conference for academics in volleyball and softball. While in high school she was active in volleyball, softball, track, cheerleading, National Honor Society, and Spanish Club.

She is a sophomore majoring in business administration at BGSU Firelands where she has been on the Dean’s List.

She is the daughter of Jessica Kipp.

Huron, Ohio – Adelyn Mae Sherrard of Wakeman has received the Home Savings Business Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. Sherrard will receive $1,000 towards tuition for the 2014-2015 academic year.

This scholarship was established in 2006 by the Home Savings Charitable Foundation. Recipients of this award are chosen from students in the Norwalk and Sandusky area who have completed their first year of studies at BGSU Firelands. Sherrard is a 2013 graduate of Western Reserve High School where she was valedictorian and earned the Four Year Academic Award.

She is a sophomore majoring in accounting at BGSU Firelands where she has been on the Dean’s List.

She is the daughter of Richard and Tessie Sherrard of Wakeman.

Norwalk resident receives scholarship to attend BGSU Firelands

Huron, Ohio – Joseph M. Bishman of Norwalk has received the John and Sandy Doering Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. Bishman will receive $530 towards tuition for the 2014-2015 academic year.

This variable scholarship is available to full- and part-time students from Erie, Huron, and Ottawa counties who are pursuing majors in business or sociology. A 3.0 GPA is required and financial need is considered.

Bishman earned his GED in 2000.

He is a junior majoring in business administration at BGSU Firelands.

Attica resident receives scholarship to attend BGSU Firelands

Huron, Ohio – Jordan Cole Phillips of Attica has received the Sandusky Area Health Education Center Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. Phillips will receive $300 towards tuition for the 2014-2015 academic year.

This award, sponsored by the Health Careers Unlimited organization, is available to a sophomore majoring in a health career field at BGSU Firelands. Recipients must have a 3.0 GPA and be from Erie, Ottawa, Sandusky, Huron, or Seneca counties.

Phillips is a 2013 graduate of Seneca East High School. In his spare time he is member of the Tiffin Right to Life Speaking Committee.

He is a sophomore majoring in health sciences at BGSU Firelands where he has been on the Dean’s List.

He is the son of Brian and Tracy Phillips of Attica.
