Huron, Ohio – At Bowling Green State University Firelands College’s annual Recognition Program on April 25, Jayne Yost, a Milan resident employed by Macy’s Systems & Technology, Inc., Lorain, was awarded the 2014 Community Service Award.
The Community Service Award is given to an individual or organization from the community who has, in an extraordinary manner, participated in the growth, development, or promotion of BGSU Firelands and the Firelands community.
Yost has been employed at Macy’s Systems and Technology, Inc. since 2004 in a variety of roles and she currently serves as a senior business analyst. From 2010 until March of this year, she was the information technology recruiter and had a high level of interaction with BGSU Firelands.
From advanced store systems to sophisticated data management to the thriving online marketplace, Macy’s Systems and Technology serves as the technology hub of Macy’s – creating, gathering, and directing millions of pieces of data that come together to form valuable management tools. Macy’s Systems and Technology also develops and supports other retail, e-commerce, and data warehouse systems. Macy’s Systems and Technology has created tech-enhanced store shopping through an omnichannel approach that makes the shopping experience seamless across in-store, online, & mobile channels.
As the information technology recruiter, Yost worked with BGSU Firelands to recruit full-time employees and student interns.
“Jayne has been instrumental in creating educational opportunities for our students: job shadowing, guest lectures, “day in the life” field trips, mentoring, as well as internships and full-time employment” said BGSU Firelands Computer Science Lecturer Rachelle Kristof Hippler. “I have no doubt that Macy’s Systems & Technology, through Jayne Yost’s leadership; will continue to be a partner in the growth, development, and promotion of BGSU Firelands and our students.”
As a proud alumnus of BGSU, Yost has a firsthand knowledge of the quality education and training students receive from the University. She earned a bachelor’s degree in interpersonal and public communications in 1990 and a master’s degree in communications studies in 1991 both from BGSU. She also completed studies toward a doctoral degree in communications studies from BGSU.
Students relate to Yost as an alumnus and appreciate her efforts to recruit from her alma mater.
“Jayne was incredibly kind and helpful during my interview process. Her support made me feel more confident in my abilities and proved that Macy’s would be a great place to intern,” said BGSU Firelands computer science student Allyson Sherrard.
Yost is familiar with the nurturing skills needed to help students succeed – while earning her degree at BGSU she taught several classes and she was the assistant director for basic speech courses which served more than 1,000 students per semester.
“Jayne Yost is more than a great recruiter. She is knowledgeable, helpful and a pleasure to work with, said BGSU Firelands visual communications technology student Jenna Crosby. “She is an intern’s lifeline at Macy’s.”
