Huron resident receives scholarship to attend BGSU Firelands
Huron, Ohio – Linda Opfer of Huron has received the Citizens Banking Company Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. Opfer will receive $1,000 towards tuition for the 2013-2014 academic year.
This award is available to students who are enrolled on either a full- or part-time basis. Students who demonstrate need and reside in the Citizens Banking Company’s marketing area are given special consideration for this award.
Opfer is a 1990 graduate of Riley High School Christian Center, South Bend, Ind.
She is a senior majoring in criminal justice at BGSU Firelands where she is active with the Criminal Justice Club and the Humanity Organized for Peace through Education Club.

Fremont resident receives scholarship to attend BGSU Firelands
Huron, Ohio – David Michael Stover of Fremont has received the Jim and Della May Memorial Book Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. Stover will receive $452 towards his textbooks for the 2013-2014 academic year.
Jim May was a BGSU alumnus and an educator in Sandusky, Margaretta, and Medina school systems. The book scholarship, endowed by the May’s children, is available to an early childhood education major, or a student who plans to pursue another certification degree at the main campus. Full- and part-time students are considered. Highest preference is given to non-traditional students returning to school to pursue a career in public school teaching. Financial need is a primary consideration with academic potential and service or activities as second.
Stover is a 2000 graduate of Fremont Ross High School.
He is a senior majoring in early childhood education at BGSU Firelands where he has been on the Dean’s List.

Berlin Heights resident receives scholarship to attend BGSU Firelands
Huron, Ohio – Amy Lynn Salmons of Berlin Heights has received the John and Sandy Doering Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. Salmons will receive $499 towards tuition for the 2013-2014 academic year.
This variable scholarship is available to full- and part-time students from Erie, Huron, and Ottawa counties who are pursuing majors in business or sociology. A 3.0 GPA is required and financial need is considered.
Salmons is a 2012 graduate of Edison High School where she received various awards for tennis including Most Promising Underclassmen Award, Sportsmanship Award, and Leadership Award. While in high school she was involved in tennis, Chargerettes, National Honor Society, Varsity E Club, and Student Council.
She is a sophomore majoring in early childhood development at BGSU Firelands.
She is the daughter of William and Deborah Salmons of Berlin Heights.

Huron resident receives scholarship to attend BGSU Firelands
Huron, Ohio – Janet Ann Keiffer of Huron has received the Mack Snyder Rau Memorial Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. Keiffer will receive $809 towards tuition for the 2013-2014 academic year.
This endowed scholarship was given in memory of Mack Snyder Rau by Alice W. Rau, David A. Rau and Norman D. Rau. The scholarship is made available to students pursuing a bachelor of liberal studies degree who are from Erie County. Both freshman and continuing students are eligible. A “C+” average, school and community activities, and financial need are considerations for this award.
Keiffer is a 1977 graduate of Edison High School. She is active with Christ Episcopal Church, Community Songfest at the Huron Rotary Arts Festival, and Huron Playhouse.
She is a junior majoring in liberal arts at BGSU Firelands where she has been active with the Firelands College Theatre and the Firelands Writing Center.

LaCarne resident receives scholarship to attend BGSU Firelands
Huron, Ohio – Allison Rhoda of LaCarne has received the Margie A. Woell Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. Rhoda will receive $951 towards tuition for the 2013-2014 academic year.
This endowed award is available to full- or part-time students. Preference is given to students majoring in education, one of the social sciences, or one of the helping professions, such as social work, criminal justice, human services, family services, gerontology, or nursing.
Rhoda is a 2010 graduate of Port Clinton High School.
She is a senior majoring in social work at BGSU Firelands.
She is the daughter of Fred and Vita Rhoda.

Sandusky resident receives scholarship to attend BGSU Firelands
Huron, Ohio – Anuj Hitendrakumar Shah of Sandusky has received the Larry and Karen Bettcher Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. Shah will receive $809 towards tuition for the 2013-2014 academic year.
This scholarship, established in 2004 by Larry and Karen Bettcher, is available to full- and part-time undergraduate students who are majoring in electrical/electronics engineering technology, industrial technology or manufacturing technology. Eligible graduates of high schools in Erie, Huron, Ottawa, or Lorain counties who have at least a 3.2 GPA will be considered. Preference is given to freshman students, but traditional age sophomores are considered.
Shah is a 2013 graduate of Perkins High School where he was involved in Aim for Excellence.
He is a freshman majoring in electronics and computer technology at BGSU Firelands.
He is the son of Hitendrakumar and Nutan Shah of Sandusky.

Castalia resident receives scholarship to attend BGSU Firelands
Huron, Ohio – Angel Renea Kuhn of Castalia has received the Therese and Alonzo Allen Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. Kuhn will receive $488 towards tuition for the 2013-2014 academic year.
This scholarship, established in 2002 by Conrad and Deanna Allen, is available to a full-time underrepresented, undergraduate who is majoring in business or education. A minimum 3.0 GPA is required, but preference is given to students with a higher GPA.
Kuhn is a 1977 graduate of Margaretta High School. She has been a volunteer with Castalia Recreation, Margaretta Music Organization, and Erie County 4-H. She has been a piano accompanist for area schools, civic groups, and churches for more than 40 years.
She is a freshman majoring in accounting at BGSU Firelands.
She is married to Danny L. Kuhn of Castalia.
