Port Clinton resident receives scholarship to attend BGSU Firelands

Huron, Ohio – Caly Anne Laurents of Port Clinton has received the Bowling Green State University Firelands College Community Scholarship. Laurents will receive $1,244 towards tuition for the 2012-2013 academic year.

Funds for this scholarship are generously given by people in the BGSU Firelands community and through solicitations by the BGSU Firelands Foundation Board.

Laurents is a 2007 graduate of Port Clinton High School where she was on the honor roll.

She is a junior majoring in visual communication technology at BGSU Firelands where she has been on the Dean’s List and maintained a 3.95 GPA. She has won the Visual Communication Technology Award and twice won the Outstanding Technical Award for Theatre. She has been inducted into the Society of the Flame, Phi Eta Sigma, and Wellgates International Honor Society. She is active with the Speech Activities Organization – Theatre and Visual Communications Technology Organization.

She is married to Joe Simko and she is the daughter of Phil Lacer and Victoria Laurents of Port Clinton.

Sandusky resident receives scholarship to attend BGSU Firelands

Huron, Ohio – Gary Phillip Liebenthal of Sandusky has received the BGSU Firelands Community Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. Liebenthal will receive $1,244 towards tuition for the 2012-2013 academic year.

Liebenthal is a 2012 graduate of Perkins High School where he earned the President’s Education Award, was on the honor and merit rolls, and he was named Student of the Nine Weeks.

He is an entering freshman majoring in electromechanical technology at BGSU Firelands

He is the son of John and Margot Liebenthal of Sandusky.

Huron resident receives scholarship to attend BGSU Firelands

Huron, Ohio – Randi Nicole Minton of Huron has received the Carl R. and Elizabeth Swanbeck Memorial Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. Minton will receive $418 towards tuition for the 2012-2013 academic year.

Established by family, friends, and admirers of the late Swanbecks, this scholarship is awarded to a graduate, or candidate for graduation, of Huron High School. Financial need is the primary criterion, along with scholastic achievement and participation in activities.

Minton is a 2011 graduate of Huron High School.

She is a sophomore majoring in nursing at BGSU Firelands.

Collins resident receives scholarship to attend BGSU Firelands

Huron, Ohio – Casey Jordan Molesky of Collins has received the Dr. Judith A. Sommers Scholarship Fund Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. Molesky will receive $1,974 towards tuition for the 2012-2013 academic year.

Judith A. Schroeder Sommers established this fund to support a student from Huron County. Preference is given to a student from Norwalk High School majoring in education. The recipient must be at least a sophomore and maintain at least a 3.0 GPA.

Molesky is a 2010 graduate of Western Reserve High School where she was a member of the Future Farmers of America. She is a volunteer for Rails to Trails and maintains a walking path in Collins. She currently participates in a women’s basketball league at the Sandusky YMCA and a women’s softball league in Norwalk.

She is a junior majoring in early childhood education at BGSU Firelands where she has been on the Dean’s List, maintained a 4.0 GPA and is a member of the Firelands Ohio Student Education Association.

She is the daughter of Tim and Joni Molesky of Collins.

Oak Harbor resident receives scholarship to attend BGSU Firelands

Huron, Ohio – Tamera Lynn Helle of Oak Harbor has received the Health Careers Unlimited Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. Helle will receive $300 towards tuition for the 2012-2013 academic year. An additional $200 book award is being offered by BGSU Firelands as a companion scholarship.

This award, sponsored by the Health Careers Unlimited organization, is available to a sophomore majoring in a health career field at BGSU Firelands. Recipients must have a “B” average and be from Erie, Ottawa, Sandusky, Huron, or Seneca counties.

Helle is a 2010 graduate of Oak Harbor High School.

She is a sophomore majoring in nursing at BGSU Firelands.

She is the daughter of Ron Helle and Tracey Schiller.

Bellevue resident receives scholarship to attend BGSU Firelands

Huron, Ohio – Heather Rose Missler of Bellevue has received the Health Careers Unlimited Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. Missler will receive $300 towards tuition for the 2012-2013 academic year. An additional $200 book award is being offered by BGSU Firelands as a companion scholarship.

This award, sponsored by the Health Careers Unlimited organization, is available to a sophomore majoring in a health career field at BGSU Firelands. Recipients must have a “B” average and be from Erie, Ottawa, Sandusky, Huron, or Seneca counties.

Missler is a 2005 graduate of Bellevue Senior High School. In 2006 she became a licensed practical nurse by earning a degree through EHOVE. In 2008 she earned her registered nurse degree through Firelands School of Nursing.

She is a sophomore majoring in nursing at BGSU Firelands.

She is married to Wesley Missler and she is the daughter of Charles and Amy Gittinger.

Huron resident receives scholarship to attend BGSU Firelands

Huron, Ohio – Beau William Frederick Busdicker of Huron has received the John and Sandy Doering Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. Busdicker will receive $809 towards tuition for the 2012-2013 academic year.

This variable scholarship is available to full- and part-time students from Erie, Huron, and Ottawa counties who are pursuing majors in business or sociology. A 3.0 GPA is required and financial need is considered.

Busdicker is a 2011 graduate of Edison High School where he was inducted into the National Honor Society, was on the honor roll, and graduated with honors. While in high school he was active in Spanish Club, Drama Club, Key Club, band, choir, and Big Brothers Big Sisters.

He is a continuing freshman majoring in general business management at BGSU Firelands where he has been on the Dean’s List.

He is the son of William and Heidi Busdicker of Huron.

Vermilion resident receives scholarship to attend BGSU Firelands

Huron, Ohio – Charity Alice Justice of Vermilion has received the Mylander Foundation Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. Justice will receive $1,780 towards tuition for the 2012-2013 academic year.

This scholarship is available to students who are residents of Sandusky or other Erie County communities.

Justice is a 2012 graduate of Vermilion High School where she was involved in marching band, concert band, symphonic choir, Soundsation, Leo Club, tennis, musicals, and Senior Board. She earned a varsity letter and a varsity pin in marching band and a varsity letter in cheerleading. She was named the West Shore Conference Scholar Athlete Award in the fall of 2011.

She is an entering freshman at BGSU Firelands.

She is the daughter of Shawn and Lisa Justice of Vermilion.

Huron, Ohio – Aubrey Irene Notestine of Huron has received the Mylander Foundation Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. Notestine will receive $1,780 towards tuition for the 2012-2013 academic year.

This scholarship is available to students who are residents of Sandusky or other Erie County communities.

Notestine is a 2012 graduate of Edison High School where she was on the honor roll and she was involved in Varsity E Club, Art Club, French Honor Society, Drama Club, Key Club, French Club, Spanish Club, basketball, volleyball, yearbook, and the school newspaper. She was named All Conference SBC in volleyball and her team went to the Regional Semi-Finals in 2012. While in high school she was active with her church and the youth group.

She is an entering freshman majoring in communication at BGSU Firelands.

She is the daughter of Brian and Toni Notestine of Huron.

Sandusky resident receives scholarship to attend BGSU Firelands

Huron, Ohio – Matthew Joseph Ommert of Sandusky has received the Robert W. Traver Memorial Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. Ommert will receive $2,492 towards tuition for the 2012-2013 academic year.

Established in memory of the former Sandusky chief of police and chief of security for Mr. Wiggs Department Stores, Inc., this scholarship is awarded to a student who is a resident of Sandusky. Sons and daughters of police officers are given preference.

Ommert is a 2011 graduate of Perkins High School.

He is a sophomore majoring in early childhood education at BGSU Firelands.

He is the son of Jim and Sarah Ommert of Sandusky.
