Sandusky resident receives scholarship to attend BGSU Firelands
Huron, Ohio – Janique K. Pettis of Sandusky has received the Therese and Alonzo Allen Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. Pettis will receive $502 towards tuition for the 2012-2013 academic year.
This scholarship, established in 2002 by Conrad and Deanna Allen, is available to a full-time underrepresented, undergraduate who is majoring in business or education. A minimum 3.0 GPA is required, but preference is given to students with a higher GPA.
Pettis is a 2011 graduate of Sandusky High School.
She is a sophomore majoring in business management at BGSU Firelands.
She is the daughter of Joan Pettis.

Norwalk resident receives scholarship to attend BGSU Firelands
Huron, Ohio – Brandon C. Helman of Norwalk has received the James E. Cole Memorial Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. Helman will receive $2,892 towards tuition for the 2012-2013 academic year.
High school academic achievement plus potential for scholarly success in college are primary considerations for this scholarship. This award is open to graduating seniors from Norwalk or St. Paul high schools. Applicants are screened by the principals of the schools who recommend three finalists for considered of the Firelands Scholarship Committee.
Helman is a 2012 graduate of Norwalk High School where he was inducted into the National Honor Society, involved with tennis and bowling, and on the honor and merit rolls. He earned blue ribbons in the Huron County Fair Art Exhibit and the National Honor society Art Show. He is a member of the Worship Team at Faith Memorial Church in Sandusky.
He is a sophomore working towards an associate of arts degree at BGSU Firelands.
He is the son of Paul and Cris Helman of Norwalk.

Berlin Heights resident receives scholarship to attend BGSU Firelands
Huron, Ohio – Tyler Jay Pravlik of Berlin Heights has received the Richard A. Jeffrey Memorial Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. Pravlik will receive $750 towards tuition for the 2012-2013 academic year.
This scholarship is made possible through the generous donations of friends and family of Richard A. Jeffrey. Erie County residents
who are graduates of Sandusky, St. Mary’s Central Catholic, Perkins, Edison, Huron or Margaretta high schools and are majoring in nursing, medical or science who have a 3.0 GPA are eligible for consideration. Community service is also important.
Pravlik is a 2012 graduate of Edison High School where he was on the merit and honor rolls. Throughout high school he has been active with Big Brothers Big Sisters, ECHO youth group, and mission trips to Utah and inner-city Cleveland. He also serves as a youth camp volunteer at Camp Patmos and is a dog kennel volunteer.
He is an entering freshman majoring in nursing at BGSU Firelands.
He is the son of David and April Pravlik of Berlin Heights.

Huron resident receives scholarship to attend BGSU Firelands
Huron, Ohio – Kaitlyn A. Stradtman of Huron has received the Frank A. and Anna I. McBride Memorial Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. Stradtman will receive $975 towards tuition for the 2012-2013 academic year.
This endowed award was given by Dr. James H. and Mrs. Margaret B. McBride in memory of Dr. McBride’s parents, Frank and Anna McBride. Although students from any discipline may receive the award, if a deserving student with musical interests apply, they should be considered.
Stradtman is a 2012 graduate of Huron High School where she was on the merit and honor rolls. She was active in soccer, track, French Club, CARD Program, Chorale, O.M.E.A. Solo and Ensemble competitions, Teacher Academy Program, and the Firelands
Chapter of the Ohio Student Education Association. In soccer she earned four varsity letters, was the senior captain, earned Honorable Mention all SBC three times, and earned Honorable Mention All-District once. She earned two varsity letters in track.
She is an entering freshman majoring in early childhood education and special education at BGSU Firelands.
She is the daughter of Jared and Kristine Stradtman of Huron.

Norwalk resident receives scholarship to attend BGSU Firelands
Huron, Ohio – Nora M. Knople of Norwalk has received the Dudley Allen White Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. Knople will receive $1,698 towards tuition for the 2012-2013 academic year.
This scholarship, established in 2002 by Alice Rau, White’s sister, is available to a student who is a resident of Erie or Huron
counties and is pursuing a bachelor of liberal studies. Involvement in school and community activities and financial need are considered.
Knople is a 1990 graduate of Norwalk High School.
She is a senior majoring in liberal studies at BGSU Firelands where she has been on the Dean’s List and a member of the Healthy
Lifestyle Club.
She is married to Christopher Knople of Norwalk and she is the daughter of Jimmie and Georgia Gibson.

Amherst resident receives scholarship to attend BGSU Firelands
Huron, Ohio – Michael Mark Traster of Amherst has received the Student Government Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. Traster will receive $2,266 towards tuition for the 2012-2013 academic year.
This award is available to students with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or better in college or a “B” average or better in high school. Financial need is a factor.
Traster is a 2005 graduate of Firelands High School.
He is a junior majoring in respiratory care at BGSU Firelands where he has been on the Dean’s List and currently serves as the president of the 2011-2012 respiratory care class.
He is married to Candace Traster of Amherst and he is the son of Mike and Tina Traster of Amherst.
