Norwalk resident receives scholarship to attend BGSU Firelands
Huron, Ohio – Ashley Jo Buchanan of Norwalk has received the BGSU Academic Tournament Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. Buchanan will receive $1,000 towards tuition for the 2012-2013 academic year.
This scholarship, sponsored by BGSU Firelands, is awarded to a graduate of the high school that places first in the annual BGSU Firelands Academic Tournament.
Buchanan is a 2010 graduate of Norwalk High School.
She is a junior majoring in nursing at BGSU Firelands where she has been on the Dean’s List twice.
She is the daughter of Mark and Peggy Buchanan.

Collins resident receives scholarship to attend BGSU Firelands
Huron, Ohio – Jordan C. Phillips of Collins has received the BGSU Firelands Advisory Board Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. Phillips will receive $1,224 towards tuition for the 2012-2013 academic year.
This scholarship is used by the Director of enrollment management and student retention services to recruit a high school student who has demonstrated a high level of academic achievement through at least six semesters of high school
work. The recipient must have at least a cumulative 3.5 grade point average, 25 ACT score or 1050 SAT score, demonstrate a history of involvement in school or community activities, enroll for a minimum of 12 credit hours of coursework for each semester in which the award is in effect.
Phillips is a 2012 graduate of Western Reserve High School.
He is an entering freshman at BGSU Firelands.
He is the son of Chris and Julie Phillips of Collins.

Sandusky resident receives scholarship to attend BGSU Firelands
Huron, Ohio – Robert Douglas Striblen of Sandusky has received the Dr. Joseph F. Krauter Memorial Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. Striblen will receive $940 towards tuition for the 2012-2013 academic year.
This endowed scholarship was established in memory of Dr. Joseph F. Krauter, a BGSU Firelands professor from 1969 to 1989. Non-traditional students with a 2.5 GPA can be considered with preference given to students who have served in the military, who are full-time students, and who reside in Erie, Huron, or Ottawa counties. Special emphasis is placed on students who are working while attending college, but who are in jeopardy of dropping out due to financial
reasons.
This award was established by former students and friends of Krauter. He was remembered by many of his former students who paid the following tribute: “This is a special tribute and thank you to an outstanding professor. Peace be with you Dr. Krauter, for all the heartfelt deeds you so kindly extended to all of your college students. For your gentle hand of encouragement and the door that was always open when others were shut. Sharing the greatest gift of yourself through knowledge, caring and compassion for others, you taught us to believe in ourselves. You challenged us to succeed in our education and to never give up. You taught us life is precious and has meaning and hope for all.”
Striblen is a 1997 graduate of Manchester High School.
He is a junior majoring in business at BGSU Firelands where he has been on the Dean’s List.

Huron, Ohio – Kathy J. Niehm of Sandusky has received the Frost-Parker Foundation Scholarship at Bowling Green State University Firelands College. Niehm will receive $2,045 towards tuition for the 2012-2013 academic year.
This endowed award is available to students who are enrolled on either a full- and part-time basis.
Niehm is a 1977 graduate of Perkins High School.
She is a junior at BGSU Firelands where she has previously earned an associate of science.
She is the daughter of Wallace and Lorraine Keeley.

Huron, Ohio – Beth M. Cerveniak of Sandusky has received the Frost-Parker Foundation Scholarship at Bowling Green State University Firelands College. Cerveniak will receive $2,045 towards tuition for the 2012-2013 academic year.
This endowed award is available to students who are enrolled on either a full- and part-time basis.
Cerveniak is a 1986 graduate of Huron High School. She has been a licensed practical nurse since 1988.
She is a sophomore working towards a bachelor of science in nursing at BGSU Firelands.

Sandusky resident receives scholarship to attend BGSU Firelands
Huron, Ohio – John David Pankow of Sandusky has received the The Larry & Karen Bettcher Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. Pankow will receive $763 towards tuition for the 2012-2013 academic year.
This scholarship, established in 2004 by Larry and Karen Bettcher, is available to full- and part-time undergraduate students who are majoring in electrical/electronics engineering technology, industrial technology or manufacturing technology. Eligible graduates of high schools in Erie, Huron, Ottawa, or Lorain counties who have at least a 3.2 GPA will be considered. Preference is given to freshman students, but traditional age sophomores are considered.
Pankow is a 2012 graduate of Sandusky High School where he was a scholar athlete, earned varsity letters in soccer and track, and he was inducted in the National Technical Honor Society. He was awarded the Soccer Captains Award, the Soccer Second Year Award, the Track Second Year Award, the Foreign Language Student of the Month for Latin, the Career Tech Achiever of the Month, and the Career Tech Student of the Month.
He is an entering freshman majoring in electromechanical engineering at BGSU Firelands.
He is the son of Mark and Deborah Pankow of Sandusky.

Berlin Heights resident receives scholarship to attend BGSU Firelands
Huron, Ohio – Sabrina A. Wright of Berlin Heights has received the Pauline L. Wallace Memorial Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. Wright will receive $414 towards tuition for the 2012-2013 academic year.
This scholarship was initiated by Wallace’s daughters, with the support of relatives and friends, and in recognition of her professional prominence and dedication in the field of elementary education.
Wright is a 1985 graduate of Edison High School.
She is a senior majoring in early childhood education at BGSU Firelands where she has been on the Dean’s List four times.
