Huron, Ohio – Bowling Green State University Firelands College is proud to announce the creation of the Margaret J. Linz Legacy Memorial Scholarship.

Linz was a long-time Sandusky resident who began her college career as a non-traditional student working full time as she took course through BGSU at the former Academic Center in Sandusky High School.  She continued her studies at the main campus in Bowling Green and eventual earned a bachelor of science degree in education (1965) and a master’s degree in education (1969) both from BGSU.

After graduation, Linz enjoyed a long, fulfilling teaching career in Erie County, starting at Margaretta schools before transferring to the Sandusky City Schools where she taught classes in both primary grades and special education for more than 25 years.

Linz was active in the community and served in numerous civic and educational organizations, often in a board leadership capacity.  She was also honored with the Martha Holden Jennings Scholarship in Education for her commitment to her trade.

Linz passed away on Oct. 13, 2011, but her passion for education and desire to serve the community she loved is being recognized and honored by the creation of the Margaret J. Linz Legacy Memorial Scholarship.

The endowed scholarship is being created by Dr. Anthony and Kathleen Linz, the son and daughter-in-law of the late Margaret Linz, who are both also BGSU alumni.

To be eligible for the scholarship, candidates must be non-traditional students enrolled at BGSU Firelands in the education program.  Candidates must have junior class standings or better and have a minimum 3.0 GPA.  Preference is given to students who are concurrently working and taking classes and/or are active in college or community organizations.
