President Truman Comes to Life at BGSU Firelands ElderCollege Kickoff

Huron, Ohio – President Harry S. Truman will be brought to life on stage during a dramatic and entertaining reenactment at the ElderCollege fall kickoff on Sept. 7 at Bowling Green State University Firelands College.
Ken Hammontree, the founder of Living History Productions, will play the role of Truman and provide a historical foundation for the life and actions of the well-respected former president.
“My favorite part about Harry, besides ‘the buck stops here’ and his no nonsense attitude, was that his middle initial didn’t stand for anything,” said Hammontree. “But ‘Give ‘em Hell Harry’ managed to stand for a lot, including truth in advertising – he told it like it was.”
Hammontree is listed in the National Directory of Chautauqua Performers and he has portrayed more than 28 famous historical characters, including several presidents, Paul Revere, Chief Tecumseh and Johnny Appleseed.
Last March, Hammontree opened the spring season of EdlerCollege with a highly-praised portrayal of General Dwight D. Eisenhower covering the days leading up to World War II’s Operation Overlord, more commonly known as the “D-Day Invasion” of France.
The kickoff of the fall season is set for Wednesday, Sept. 7 from 1:30-3:30 p.m., in the Cedar Point Center at BGSU Firelands. The event is free and open to the public.
