Norwalk resident receives scholarship to attend BGSU Firelands

Huron, Ohio – Corey James Smith of Norwalk has received the BGSU Firelands Academic Tournament Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. Smith will receive $1,000 towards tuition for the 2011-2012 academic year.

This scholarship, sponsored by BGSU Firelands, is awarded to a graduate of the high school that places first in the annual BGSU Firelands Academic Tournament.

Smith is a 2011 graduate of Norwalk High School where he had perfect attendance, was on the merit roll, was named Second Team All Academic, and received a four-year award for swimming. He was active in Key Club, varsity swim team, summer swim team, golf, and musical. His volunteer efforts included Relay for Life, Swim for Diabetes, literacy volunteer, Washington D.C. Right to Life March, and Make a Difference Day.

He is a freshman majoring in visual communication technology at BGSU Firelands.

He is the son of Teri Smith of Norwalk.

Graytown resident receives scholarship to attend BGSU Firelands

Huron, Ohio – Elizabeth M. Perry of Graytown has received the Dorothy Pickett Walker Memorial Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. Perry will receive $1,000 towards tuition for the 2011-2012 academic year.

The scholarship, established in 1999, is made possible by a gift from Dorothy’s daughter, Nancy Herl, in memory of her mother. The scholarship is available to a full- or part-time student who has a 3.0 GPA and who plans to major in elementary education. Financial need is also a consideration for this award.

Perry is a 2004 graduate of Oak Harbor High School where she was involved in 4-H, Key Club, Student Council, volleyball, softball, Family, Career and Community Leaders of America, and Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

She is a senior majoring in early childhood education at BGSU Firelands where she has been on the Dean’s List and she has maintained a 4.0 GPA.

She is the daughter of Daniel and Regina Perry of Graytown.

Sandusky resident receives scholarship to attend BGSU Firelands

Huron, Ohio – Breanna Mackenzie Sharpe of Sandusky has received the George L. Mylander Scholarship at BGSU Firelands Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. Sharpe will receive $1,584 towards tuition for the 2011-2012 academic year.

This scholarship is offered to a student who is a resident of Sandusky or other Erie County communities.

Sharpe is a 2011 graduate of Sandusky High School where she earned an honors diploma and a Presidential Academic Award. Throughout high school she had perfect attendance, was a scholar athlete, and was named most improved in tennis. She was active in International Club, National Honor Society, National Technical Honor Society, Drama Club, Dance Team, orchestra, mentor program, volleyball and varsity tennis. She is a State Tested Nursing Assistant.

She is a freshman majoring in pre-med at BGSU Firelands.

She is the daughter of R. Jason and Kayleen Sharpe of Sandusky.

Milan resident receives scholarship to attend BGSU Firelands

Huron, Ohio – Abigail Lee Harrington of Milan has received the George L. Mylander Scholarship at BGSU Firelands Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. Harrington will receive $1,584 towards tuition for the 2011-2012 academic year.

This scholarship is offered to a student who is a resident of Sandusky or other Erie County communities.

Harrington is a 2008 graduate of Edison High School.

She is a senior majoring in early childhood education at BGSU Firelands where she has been on the Dean’s List and she was inducted into Phi Eta Sigma.

She is the daughter of Mark and Kim Harrington of Milan.

Clyde resident receives scholarship to attend BGSU Firelands

Huron, Ohio – Hailey Danielle Tyree of Clyde has received the Margie A. Woell Memorial Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. Tyree will receive $498 towards tuition for the 2011-2012 academic year.

This endowed award is available to full- and part-time students. Preference is shown to students majoring in education, a social science, or one of the helping professions, such as social work, criminal justice, human services, family services, gerontology or nursing.

Tyree is a 2010 graduate of Bellevue High School where she was on the honor roll and had perfect attendance. While in high school she was active in band and she painted a school mural.

She is a sophomore majoring in nursing at BGSU Firelands. While in college she has been working as a state tested nursing assistant.

She is the daughter of Daniel Tyree and Angella Endicott of Clyde.

Huron, Ohio – Beau William Frederick Busdicker of Huron has received the Mylander Foundation Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. Busdicker will receive $1,600 towards tuition for the 2011-2012 academic year.

This scholarship is available to students who are residents of Sandusky or other Erie County communities.

Busdicker is a 2011 graduate of Edison High School where he was inducted into the National Honor Society, earned an honors diploma, and was named Student of the Quarter in math and history. He was involved in Spanish Club, Drama Club, Key Club, and Big Brother Big Sisters.

He is a freshman majoring in business at BGSU Firelands.

He is the son of William and Heidi Busdicker of Huron.

She is married to Jason Fox of Sandusky and she is the daughter of Janice Uglis of Chesterfield, Mich.

Palmucci is a 2011 graduate of Perkins High School where she participated in band, chorael, Ohio Model United Nations, Drama Club, International Thespian Society, and National Honor Society. Awards she received include the Senior English Department Award, the President’s Education Award, and the Girl Scouts Bronze Award. She also acheived the status of a Four Star Thespian.

She is a freshman majoring in world language education at BGSU Firelands.

She is the daughter of David and Faith Palmucci of Sandusky.

Huron, Ohio – Jamie Lee Savage of Bellevue has received the Pat and Annie Saunders Book Award to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. Savage will receive $250 towards tuition for the 2011-2012 academic year.

Funded by a generous gift from the Twenty-First Century Foundation, two Book Awards are available to part-time students from Huron County who are involved in school or community activities and demonstrate need. One award is for a traditional-age student and one award is for a non-traditional student.

Savage, a traditional student, is a 2011 graduate of Bellevue High School where she was active with yearbook, Art Club and 4-H. She received the Elks Award and art fair awards.

She is a freshman majoring in nursing at BGSU Firelands.

She is the daughter of Christopher and Deanna Savage of Bellvue.
