Huron, Ohio – Bowling Green State University Firelands College has recently honored seven local high school students who were named 2011 Outstanding College Tech Prep Seniors though the Workforce Development Council Tech Prep Consortium.

Students were selected by their instructors based on grade point averages, participation in class and laboratory activities, participation at home school or out-of-school activities, participation in student competitions or other Tech Prep activities, recommendations from other academic or Tech Prep teachers, and attendance.

The seven students were selected from a cohort of 183 students in the College Tech Prep programs supported by BGSU Firelands.  Each student will be awarded a $500 scholarship to attend BGSU Firelands.

Tech Prep is a federally-funded program for high school juniors and seniors that blends advanced technology with rigorous academic courses. The program also seeks to provide a seamless transition between high school and college.  Many students in Tech Prep earn up to 15 college credits by the time they graduate from high school and approximately 85 percent of local Tech Prep high school graduates continue their education at the collegiate level.
