My name is Chevon Anderson and I am a sophomore at Bowling Green State University. My major is broadcast journalism with a minor in sports management/communication. My experience in broadcast began on campus at BG24 News. Here I learned how to record and edit video and sound; write scripts for the anchors; work the teleprompter; work the cameras; and the graphics using a Decko system. With BG24 News I acquired a great deal of hands on training.
In addition to being a participant at the school news station I am also a part of the BGSU chapter of the National Association of Black Journalist, NABJ. In this organization we all meet and discuss how to become better journalist, have guest speakers provide their experience and learn how to apply for internships and other valuable skills.
I am currently working on campus as a resident advisor, but my future aspiration is to become an ESPN news anchor/commentator or a field reporter for Professional Football or Professional Basketball. One thing I have learned from this profession is not to be afraid to take chances. Renowned sports writer, author and editor Glenn Stout said, “Sports writers need to be confident, taking chances like a coach or a player. I think more writing is destroyed by an abundance of caution than by risk.”

Hi Chevon,
Thanks for quoting me! I hope the adivce proves useful. My favorite quote of all time is from Julius Erving by way of David Halberstam “”Being a professional is doing the things you love to do on the days you don’t feel like doing them.” Best of luck in everything you do and stay kind.
Best,
Glenn
