BG will soon provide electrical charging stations and possible new aquatic facility

The Bowling Green Electric Division has agreed to partner with Bowling Green State University for a grant to install six electric car charging stations. The grant would pay 50 percent of the cost with BGSU and the city covering the other 50 percent.
At the city council meeting Monday night, Brian O’Connell, director of the city’s utilities department, announced the future plans of creating three electric car charging stations. Three stations will be located throughout the downtown area and three locations on BGSU’s campus. Each station would be able to charge two vehicles.
The city is waiting to pass the regulations so construction can begin. The charging stations are planned to be complete by the end of this year, said O’Connell and will cost the city $10,000 for instillation.
He also announced the charging stations located in the downtown area will be free of cost to plug. The user would only have to pay for the cost of the meter.
The university has a different approach. BGSU plans to install a credit card swiping to pay for the charge.
Another topic that arose attention at the meeting was the proposed levy for the creation of a new aquatic facility in Bowling Green City Park.
“It’s hard to image Bowling Green without an aquatic facility,” said Jodi Anderson, chairperson of the city’s Board of Parks and Recreation.
City council passed two readings that would place a 6-mill bond issue on the March 6 primary ballot. The third readings will be anticipated at the next council’s meeting.
“We think people want a place where their kids can ride a bike to City Park, use an outdoor pool and take swimming lessons,” said Anderson.
The committee has been waiting on the issue since 2005.

Adopted an ordinance allowing additional parking for the Heritage Corner Healthcare on Klotz Road.
Adopted Darr’s Cleaning, Inc., to clean Dunbridge Road sanitary sewage between Napoleon Road and East Poe Road.
Adopted an ordinance for seven parks for new zoning in the area.
