My name is Thomas Schmeltz and I’m a junior, but this is my second year at BGSU. I went to Cleveland State for my freshman year before moving back to the BG area. I major in print journalism and I’ve been working for the Sentinel-Tribune newspaper here in BG for a year now, where I cover sports. Since starting there I was thrown right into the mix of reporting and writing from the first day, as my first story was due the day I was hired. Mainly my assignments at the paper are to cover games, but I also write many different feature stories on individual athletes and teams. Working for the paper gives me great experience for my future goals as a journalist, or whatever I decide to do in the future.
Most of my work can be found on the Sentinel’s website, which is hyperlinked above. Occasionally I post my stories to my twitter account (@Thomas_Schmeltz) but honestly I forget to do that most of the time.
Aside from writing I really just enjoy relaxing with all of my friends. Sports are a passion of mine, and I love to attend almost any sort of sporting event. I also love music and will listen to just about anything. Anywhere I am there is going to be music playing most likely.
All in all, I’m just a normal 20-year-old who likes to have all kinds of fun with whatever I’m doing. My job and working is fun, but still having time to have a good time is just as important right now.
