It was mentioned that a new business building is to be built on the main campus of Bowling Green State University, sometime in the near future.

On Friday, Thomas Hiles, vice president for university advancement, mentioned briefly that he as well as some other colleagues were asking and talking to potential donors about the new business school.

Although there is no set plan yet, the construction for the new building is expected to commence as soon as the architectural plan is been approved and all the funds and donations have been gathered. The building is expected to cost from about $45 to $50 million.

This was mentioned during BGSU’s Board of Trustees meeting on Friday. The meeting took place in the student union at 1:30 p.m., where about 60 people gathered, mostly student journalist and members of the Board.

About $15 million of the fund is expected to come from private support and so far they have been able to get a couple small donors but not the lead gift. In order to be a lead gift one has to contribute at least $10 million and in turn, the building is named after the donor.

While the new building is being constructed, the recent business school is likely to be renovated. The goal for the new building is that it has a financial trading floor “just like you would see in an actual business place,” Sheri Stoll.

There is expected to be less structure and more group interactions in class, which would be enabled with easy moveable structures. Students will not have to seat in rows like they currently do.

There is no exact plan as to where exactly the building is going to be constructed or an estimated time as to when construction begins, “it all depends on how soon we can gather the funds and get the architectural plans back,” Hiles said.

At the meeting, it was also decided that the residence hall room rates would be increased by 6.92 (including technology and laundry fees) percent for next year. With this increase, students are expected to pay from $185 to $235 extra depending on what hall they reside.

Based on how the increase is tiered Falcon height and Centennial hall are expected to see the most increase followed by Founders and Offenhauer residence halls.

“We are doing our best to keep the rates as low as possible as it can be,” said David Levey, a member of the Board of Trustees. “The aggregate is a 2.04 percent and I think that puts us at a good position with our peers in Ohio.”

The increased residence hall room rates is expected to be effective fall of 2013.
