Author: Rebekah Dyvig | Filed under: BGSU, BGSU Board of Trustees, Spring 2012, Student ContributorA $9.3 million upgrade to McDonald Hall and a $4 million renovation to the Falcons Nest are among actions approved by the Bowling Green State University trustees, Friday.
The renovation to the McDonald residence hall is Phase III of the Residence Halls Master Plan and will provide improved restrooms, lounge space, computer labs, and kitchen. McDonald Hall will also receive a new entrance and landscaping. McDonald Hall is the last facility on the northwest side of campus to need renovated.
The Student Union will be closed to the general public over the summer while work is done. The renovation of the Falcon’s Nest will transform the way food is delivered, and space will be added to the Falcon’s Nest. The partnership with Chartwells has increased sales in campus dining, bringing the renovations sooner than planned. The Falcon’s Nest also has new restaurants this fall, offering students’ new places to eat.
The board also approved a $2 million electrical, data and fire protection upgrade to the Kreischer Quadrangle residence hall. One significant change the upgrades will include is wireless internet to the hall.
The BGSU trustees also approved an increase of 2.04 percent to residence halls room rates fall 2013. The BGSU board of trustees said they are trying their best to keep room rates low, and it is only a “modest increase” for 2013.
Other trustee actions:
- Approval of Special Course Fee Revisions for 2013
- Approval of 2012 Blue Water Satellite Licensing agreement
- Approval of degree name change: Bachelor of Science in Engineering Technology
- Approval of honorary degrees to Maestra Marin Alsop and Bernice Sandler
- Trustees learned the Wolfe Center was $10 million less than what was projected, so the remaining funds from the Wolfe Center will go toward the top academic facility project on the list.
