BGSU to Increase Residence Hall Room Rates

The Bowling Green State University Board of Trustees voted to approve an average room rate increase of 2.04 percent for the 2013 fiscal year. Nine board members approved this request at the Board of Trustees meeting on Friday on the third floor of the Bowen-Thompson Student Union.
Students living in Centennial Hall and Falcon Heights can expect the largest increase of $220 for a double room from the 2012 fiscal year to the 2013 fiscal year. Students living in single and super single rooms can expect a larger increase.
The technology and laundry fees that were historically excluded from room rates reflected a lower rate when compared to other Ohio universities. The fees are now embedded within the total room rate, eliminating unexpected fees for residence hall students and parents.
“We are doing our best to keep rates as low as possible,” said board member David Levey, a BGSU alumni.
The board approved renovations for BGSU’s Falcon’s Nest dining area, Kreischer Quadrangle and McDonald Residence Hall at the meeting, among other changes.
The board voted to approve the renovation of Falcon’s Nest dining area. Dining Services Renewal and Replacement Reserves have provided $4 million in funds for the upgrades and renovations to the Falcon’s Nest. The schedule for the meeting that the proposed renovation will significantly improve throughput and operating efficiencies in the Falcon’s Nest.
In other action, the board:
-Approved of a degree name change to Bachelors of Science in engineering technology
-Approved of Kreischer electrical, data, and fire protection upgrade projects
-Approved of residence hall master plan – Phase III McDonald Residence Hall renovation
-Approved of a six-year capital plan for fiscal years 2013-2018
-Approved of academic special course fee revisions for the 2013 fiscal year
