Sixteen years ago, Kelli Kling was a volunteer at the Black Swamp Arts Festival while attending Bowling Green State University. Today, Kling is the Festival Chair. As Festival Chair, she is there to support all the volunteers, make sure volunteers are doing their job and reporting back to her with information, she also has the ability to fill-in wherever needed. Kling takes pride in the festival and loves to see the excitement on everyone’s face.

Kelli states that the 2011 basic committee consist of about 15 committee members, 50 year around volunteers, and about 500 volunteers on the weekend of the festival. The help comes from BGSU students and community members with the goal to attract more people than years in the past. With over 60,000 people attending last year, committee workers are hoping for an increasing outcome.

The activities at the festival will include music, arts, and children art activities. The committee promotes the festival by posting posters and wearing the newly designed pins in hopes to connect people through the arts.

“The festival brings excitement to the small community,” says Kling.

The Black Swamp Arts Festival is held Downtown Bowling Green, during the Fall. The first Black Swamp Arts Festival was introduced to the community in 1993, this year will be the 19^th year. The festival is organized by local business owners and community members that see the potential to bring people together in a small town through the arts. This festival has became a very popular event to the residents of Bowling Green and the university.
