Downtown Bowling Green Executive Director Barbara Ruland credits the Black Swamp Arts Festival for helping downtown businesses thrive and bringing the Bowling Green community together.
Ruland attended the first Black Swamp Arts Festival in 1993 and has been hooked ever since. The annual art and music festival was named after the swamp land that once consumed Bowling Green, Ohio.
As the Executive Director of Downtown Bowling Green, Ruland is involved with all the special events held in the downtown area, but she described the Black Swamp Arts Festival to be a favorite of hers.
The festival is a popular event for the residents of Bowling Green and many others, Ruland said. “Over 60,000 people attended last year.”
“With the festival bringing in so many visitors, it is one of the largest revenue generating times for almost every downtown business,” Ruland stated. “Those who attend the festival tend to wander into the restaurants and shops downtown.”
The Black Swamp Arts Festival showcases the history of Bowling Green and everything the town has to offer to the public. For more information on the upcoming event, visit www.blackswamparts.org.
