My Thumbnails and Preliminaries
For this final project, I found it to be very time-consuming and semi-harder than the other two projects that we did. It was my second time using a tripod and in the earlier footage, you can see me adjusting the camera just because I was unsure how close to shoot from. So, that required a little more editing then I did in previous videos but I think that I did a decent job of editing.
As far as having enough B-Roll in my video was another situation that I ran into since he didn’t really have much of his paintings with him in BG. Plus, he paints at a grander scale than most, so it was hard for him to transfer his paintings in order for me to shoot them. I think that I made up for this by putting in images of his artwork and having him do other things so that it wouldn’t seem so monotony throughout the video. Another problem was my breathing; in some clips you can really hear me breathing heavily. I’m just a heavier breather and even though I tried to stay back away from the camera a bit, you can vaguely make out me breathing.
Overall, I really actually liked editing this video because I think that you could get more creative with it like with using the LiveType, which was fun and also challenging at the same time.
Below are my final edits to my documentary. I thought that it turned out quite well. The editing part was essential to the production of these videos but you’ll read that in my reflection above.
Rough Edits
This second project was not too bad to shoot, which I was pleasantly surprised. The hardest part was figuring out what song I was going to use for my video. I always liked “Life Is A Highway” by Rascal Flatts and since it was spring break, I was going to film on the road. I wrote a storyboard for it and everything but then while I was on my trip, I found a new song accidently so I decided to change my whole script. My song, “Everytime” by Simple Plan reminded me of sibling love and how it bothers me how I rarely get to see my half brother. Since I was going to spend time with him, I decided that it was a perfect opportunity to film that instead.
Throughout my video, I had some extra help from my mom since I wanted some of me in it. Other then the shots that shows me in it, I did most of the filming for the first time. In the first video, I just kind of helped out but for this project I had to do most of it. That is why some shots are a little shaky but I think I did alright. Filming is harder then I thought it would be but I am working through it.
This is my music video for project 2. It took me a while in which I will explain in my reflection.
First of all, I want to say that I am deathly afraid of camcorders just because I do not understand them at all. I found them to be more complex than my camera that I take pictures with. As I get more used to using it, I’m sure that my fears will go away.
You can imagine me going into this project that I was a little hesitate about my abilities to produce quality work. As Kelly and I were brainstorming ideas, I actually came up with the “Everyone can be a Farmer with John Deere” idea and we decided to run with it from there. Picking the actors weren’t too hard because I had some in mind already. The biggest and hardest part of the production was just finding decent days to shoot. The day that we were planning on shooting, it was pouring down rain outside. So to compensate, we decided to just record Tommie’s voice that day and shoot the next day. It all worked well that way, too. We shot the whole commercial in a day, which I thought was pretty productive.
We did encounter some problems in editing shots but we worked through them. All in all, we worked together as a pretty productive team. I hope my next project will go more smoothly, though.
The longer version.
Hey guys,
This is Kelly and mine’s commercial for John Deere. I hope you like it!
