Masaccio’s Holy Trinity

After watching the video on Masaccio’s Holy Trinity, I thought there were some interesting artistic applications to this paintings. Ironically it is about the trinity and it uses the three point linear perspective. It uses three different points to give the painting depth. It creates an illusion that there is a room there when it is actually a painting.

In this time it was unlike any other painting ever really seen, and what’s even more remarkable is Masaccio was only in his early twenties when he painted the “Holy Trinity.”

Also what I’ve come to notice about the painting is Jesus is the focal point of the painting, like he is in most other religious paintings during this time. I believe he is always chosen to be the focal point because the artist wants us to know how important he is.

We know that Masaccio used plater, paint, string, and other instruments to paint the painting. His painting is divided into twenty eight different pieces, he would only put enough plaster down that he could paint on that day. You can still see the lines of the different pieces of the plaster.

Masaccio painting the “Holy Trinity” was a turning point in the world of art. He was the start of the Perspective movement.
