Visual Analysis Workshop

~My visual was designed for this audience: (who is the audience that is supposed to be affected by the image?)

-My visual was designed with the people who are listening to that type of music in mind.

~The visual was created by this person/company/agency:

-Eminem: Aftermath Entertainment & Web Records.

~The text around the image or in the visual itself tells me: (what does it say? What does it mean?)

-The text itself just says “The Slim Shady, LP” and the visual itself shows that potentially Eminem killed the person in the trunk and is wondering whether or not it’s a good idea to throw the body into the water.

~How does the text interact with the image (s)?  (is it necessary for you to understand the message?)

-The Slim Shady is Eminem’s very famous nickname, and LP stands for “Long Play” none of this is necessary for the people looking at it to understand what the images mean.

~ Social and cultural issues depicted or suggested by the visual include:

-Knowing Eminem, the initial thought of the visual makes it seem like it’s a girl in the trunk, which could scare away the audience and make him seem like a scary, dometically violent man.

~The historical knowledge that I need to understand the visual includes:

-Have to know what kind of person Eminem really is, and know what his older songs have to do with and what the lyrics mean.

~The visual relates to these other images, ideas, texts that I know of or that I researched:

The visual is highly related to the introduction song on the album that has to do with him killing his wife because of his frustration towards her. He also goes by Slim Shady because it’s an extranged persona, meaning its not really him its just another side of him that not many people see.

~The purpose of the visual is:

-To get the audience ready for what is to come in the album itself.
