All of our ideas and actions throughout our PSA are an example of literacy. In order for our PSA to have an impact, we had to act out a scenerio and communicate with one another. Talking amongst our peers was an example of a literacy act. Also, we used a computer at the climax of ours PSA. On our computer was the picture of the teacher drinking. Without that picture, we wouldn’t have been able to send the “Think Before You Post” message. The commercial wouldn’t have been the same and probably wouldn’t have worked without the use of a computer. Finally, we had to use the camera which had many different symbols and buttons that we had to understand in order for us to film. We had to know what symbol was what in order to play, pause, and record our PSA.

In Class Blog 3/2

Published by under Uncategorized

Our group finished our video during class time on Friday. It was nice to get the project completed early so we can spend the rest of the time editing. I think our video is pretty good and has a strong message. I think the message of “Think before you Post” is clearly presented in the video. I also think our PSA hooks the audience in right from the beginning. You can clearly see that the picture on the computer is the “Teacher” which also adds to the credibility. I really enjoyed working on the project because I liked being the camera guy. I felt like I kept my hand pretty sturdy and zoomed when I needed too. I also liked the fact that I said the final message because I feel like I had a strong voice which really got the message across.

A computer is definitly a must have tool within in a school. Society is depending more and more on computers to do a lot of work. Computers are used in practically every job a person has and it is good for a student to get experience to them as early as possible. Computers are also a great tool for learning. It can provide students with a quick and easy route to getting information and for looking things up. Although some students may get distracted with computers within the classroom, a teacher can do some things to prevent this from happening. Making all your students turn their back towards you, so you can see all their screens, is a good way to monitor what students are looking at.

2/20 PSA Analysis Activity

Published by under Uncategorized

1. The actors portray the message, “not posting your image online”, by going and looking at the picture on the board and ripping it off. They share it amongst their friends and soon enough it seems like the whole school knows about it.

2. The persuasive techniques used in the video are showing everyone’s reactions to the picture. Some are sad, some are confused and some are mad. This is to show the audience everyone’s reactions to the picture.

3. The voiceover wraps up the ad and brings everything together. He really gets the point across in a very mono-tone voice that gets the audiences attention.

4. Text is used to show what the voiceover is saying when he says “friends… family”. So not only is the audience hearing the message they are also visualizing it.

2/20 Blog Literacy Statistics

Published by under Uncategorized

I can’t get over theses statistics. Only 1 out of 17 kids 17 years old or older can read from a specialized text?? That blows my mind. Also, reading improvement hasn’t improved since 1980… over 29 years?! You would think with the increasing technology and the availability of sources and information that the reading would definitly improve. However, this is apparantly not the case. I also couldn’t believe that only 50% of the population read a newspaper or magazine once a week and a book in the last 6 months. I for sure thought that that number would have been higher. How does a person not pick up any of those things, especially a newspaper at least more than once a week?? I also couldn’t believe that 2/3 of the literate popoulation is women. It really shows how far women have gone since the womens rights movement.

Technology plays a large role in everyone’s life. You would be hard pressed to find a business that wasn’t doing all its paperwork via the computer. A computer runs alot of peoples businesses as it is alot easier than simply writing out payroll, work schedule, etc. Some people work from home on their computer and don’t even have an office or a shop. A computer is neccessary for some people to have a job and to make money.

In addition to computers other things such as tv’s, radio’s and calculators also play a large role in peoples lives. Workers who work doing payroll and other jobs regarding money often use a calculator throughout their whole work day. Practically everyone in the US owns a television and watchs it on a daily basis. Everyone uses a radio why they are driving or simply just when they are in the shower. WIthout those technologies life would be alot more plain and boring. Companies rely on televisions and radios to promote their products to gain customer interest. If there were no Tv’s or radios how would companies be able to advertise?

Technology is also why we are at war right now. Everything resorts back to technology both the good and bad of everything. Technology causes people to break into and steal things and causes fights and riots. Even with all of this techonology is still in our society and heavilly affects our literacy.

I have used peer review pretty heavily in my classes throughout college. I think in order for a peer review to be successful you must have peer’s who are willing to work and take the process seriously. I think peer review must also be something that you get graded on by your teacher. That way students take it seriously. Also, it is good to stress the idea for peer review because that way students realize how important it can be.

I personally am a huge fan of peer review. I think if it is taken seriously by students it can be a great learning tool. I hope to get alot out of this peer review.

My monster has a pointed head which allow him to get into small holes. He has two mouths, one on the front of his head and one on the side. Both mouths have razor sharp teeth. His body is large and round with 2 arms that are not straight and go up and down. His feet come to a point just like his head. He looks slow but strong.
