Week 7…Running into problems

As we know, we never finish a project within the time limits we want, which is why it’s so helpful we laid out a timeline for the work we’re doing for our clients.  I am starting to run into problems because with the ideas I had for the newsletter; it is not going as planned as far as the programs I can use to create a newsletter template that will be accessible & editable for my client.  I’ve been emailing our professor back & fourth a few times to see what solutions we can come up with for a free template software,.  I’m really hoping to get this solved by the end of this week so I cannot get too behind on the rest of the semester, since I know more problems will of course arise!

This is part of the learning process though, that something I thought would be so simple to do for my client, turned into such a hassle, and more time consuming than I thought.

This makes me nervous. I gave myself a lot of time for the stages of my project in my timeline, but I have yet to actually start much other than my research. I should be starting production on my project by the end of next week. I hope you get your newsletter figured out, have you ever tried making a PDF with editable fields for you client to use as far as variable data goes? I don’t know if that is what you are looking for but it might be worth looking into.

In the past I’ve created my main newsletter artwork in Indesign and then brought it into word as artwork and created a word template for the client to use. You can set up your columns and basic layout with text boxes and image boxes in the template and then the client does a save as every time they produce a new newsletter. It’s cumbersome, but it is one work around that might work. Good luck!

I would love to know how you went about this project once you figured everything out. My client was interested in a newsletter template for their use this summer. However, as of now I am still working on their initial branding needs.
