Attempting to maintain a healthy weight is often difficult, especially for people who are constantly on the go or who struggle trying to buy healthy foods.
There are many easy tips that can help you reach a healthy weight. These include:
-Eat lots of fruits and vegetables! They are full of fiber and make you feel full. These make good snacks during the day if you are slightly hungry a couple hours before a meal.
-Serving sizes are very important to watch out for. A healthy plate should be ½ fruits or vegetables, ¼ protein, and ¼ carbohydrates.
-Choose lean cuts of red meat, fish and poultry, or tofu or beans.
-Eat slower and stop when you’re satisfied, instead of stuffing yourself.
-Be aware that restaurants have larger portions and provide you with almost 3 times as many calories than you need.
– Exercise! Try being active and getting exercise for at least 30 minutes a day. Even just walking to work can provide extra benefits.
It is important to be aware of the types of foods that you are consuming. These foods can affect your health and weight in so many ways. While some of these healthy foods may not seem so appetizing there are ways to change them up or modify them.
Ways to spice up a boring meal:
-Experiment with new foods and combinations. Add some fruit to a slice of whole wheat toast with peanut butter or add some into a salad.
-Enjoy foods from other cultures such as hummis or an Asian cuisine.
-Add salsa to other foods besides just chips. It will spice up your eggs, salad, and vegetables.
-Make a nutritious snack rather than a full meal. Try low fat corn muffins with apple and cheese slices or a brown rice cake with ricotta cheese and strawberries.
-Use herbs and spices to add color and taste.
