OhioLINK EJC and Database Outage

The OhioLINK Electronic Journal Center (EJC) is currently experiencing an outage due to a hardware problem.

This same problem is also affecting access to several OhioLINK research databases, including:
Art Full Text
ATLA Religion Database
Compendex
Gale Business & Industry
GeoRef
Inspec
PAIS
Sociological Abstracts

Access to BIOSIS, ERIC and PsycINFO is NOT affected.

OhioLINK is aware of the problem, and technicians are working to restore access.

ISI Web of Knowledge and Scopus Trials: Update and Additional Information

As previously announced, BGSU is currently participating in statewide trials of both ISI Web of Knowledge (published by Thomson Reuters) and Scopus (published by Elsevier) through November 18. These trials are part of an Intent to Negotiate (ITN) initiated by OhioLINK on behalf of Ohio libraries. By December, librarians at OhioLINK libraries will evaluate both databases and these publishers’ ITN responses and will select one as the best value for OhioLINK libraries.

Members of the BGSU community are encouraged to participate in this process and provide their feedback. Both products are available from the University Libraries’ Trial Databases web page. Both publishers will also be giving online demonstrations of their products.

Scopus Webinars

Online demonstrations of Elsevier’s Scopus database will be held:

For audio, dial 866.501.6993 and enter participant code 333994.

No advance registration is required for either session.

Note: The library will host the November 2 webinar in the Pallister Conference Room (150 Jerome Library). All are welcome to attend.

Information about ISI Web of Knowledge online demonstrations, scheduled for October 27 and 29, was announced previously and may be accessed here.

OhioLINK WoS/Scopus Comparison Report

The OhioLINK Web of Science/Scopus ITN Review Team has created a 24-page report identifying and comparing six key functionalities in the two products that are key to the needs of OhioLINK users. These are:

  • General searching for relevant articles/literature
  • Citation searching and research evaluation
  • Author productivity
  • Institutional research output
  • Visualization tools
  • Citation management

All members of OhioLINK institutions are invited to review this report. Copies are available at the Jerome Library Research and Information Desk. Please contact Amy Fry, Electronic Resources Coordinator, at afry@bgsu.edu if you would like a hard copy mailed to you. Distribution to anyone outside an OhioLINK institution is prohibited.

Campus Trials: ISI Web of Knowledge and Scopus

For many years, all OhioLINK institutions have had access to the ISI Web of Science (Science Citation Index, Social Science Citation Index, and Arts & Humanities Citation Index) for interdisciplinary and citation searching.

OhioLINK has seen a 13% budget cut this year. In an effort to save money and use resources effectively, OhioLINK recently issued an Intent to Negotiate (ITN) for a multidisciplinary index, abstract, and reference citation database for OhioLINK institutions. Thomson Reuters responded with a suite of databases including the Web of Science. Elsevier responded with their Scopus database. By December, librarians at OhioLINK libraries will evaluate both databases and the two ITN responses and will select one as the best value for OhioLINK libraries.

The entire BGSU community has an opportunity to access both databases through statewide trials, available now through November 18, view demonstrations and provide feedback.

The Libraries invite you to:

Try both products, on or off campus.
